Default What's the difference between New Line's Infinifilm and Platinum releases?

Did they just change the name from Platinum to Infinifilm or what? The Nightmare on Elm Street dvd is a New Line Infinifilm "Go beyond the movie" it says. Or why wasn't American History X a Platinum title? It doesn't look like Freddy vs Jasons going to be either by looking at the blu-ray cover art.

Infinifilm - An interactive viewing experience that goes "beyond the movie". During the film a menu bar will appear at the bottom and give a choice to view addtional material. If you wish to view the material, a seamless branch takes you to that feature and when finished, returns you to the film. Its a "batter" way of doing the in-movie experience as you don't have a small video window in the corner and have audio playing over the movie.

Most Infinifilm experiences offered more special features than what could be accessed via the menus. 1

Platinum - Regular special edition release. And "special edition" in this case can mean the inclusion of just deleted scenes or just a commentary. It does not necessarily mean a fully loaded special editon with multiple discs.

Little Nicky is the only New Line DVD to have the distinction of being both a Platinum Edition DVD by name and an Infinifilm experience ennhanced DVD through an easter egg.
