Thumbs down 5 Free Discs -- No thanks!!

Hello, everyone. This is my very first posting on here. But I'm excited about Blu-ray, look forward to getting into it this year, and would love to hear other views.

My first input is "Thanks, but no thanks!"

I appreciate the Blu-Ray consortium putting the offer out there for five free discs with the purchase of selected players, but few of the movies they are offering hold any interest for me.

Why do these companies have to complicate things so much???

As long as they are single-disc titles, why can't we choose any five that WE want, not just pre-selected titles?

When you see an offer like this, you (I) get the impression they're just trying to clean out slow-selling titles.

Once again, companies, no thanks...I'll wait for a better offer...

I believe that this offer is to directly compete with the Toshiba HD-DVD giveaway that they had a few weeks-month ago.

Plus, even if the movies don't hold any interest to you, and maybe to anyone out there, atleast they will be able to allow you to see five different reasons why Bluray is an excellent next step in the home entertainment evolution.

Plus, there are probably a lot of people out there who would enjoy atleast one of these free movies.

I'm not ungrateful, just wishing they had a wider selection of titles to choose from, that's all. There are a few in there that do, in fact, interest me, but not one from each of the five categories...

some of the movies are great, did you see all of them?

but yea, picking up the titles you like would be great, too bad big companies are not very consumer friendly, its all about the buckies

When I bought this laptop, I got House of Flying Daggers BD included.

I still haven't watched it all the way through - not my genre.

To me, this is so that I, the consumer, can at least see that the damn drive works.
PQ is ok, neat interactive menu... and it is Blu-ray.

Tell ya what, get the new player and the 5 ??? discs... eBay them puppies!

WTH?

Better than nothing... and I've never seen a free movie promotion were there weren't "select titles"

IMHO it's better than the HD-DVD selection. The only movie I'd want from their selection would be Apollo 13. The rest aren't great at all.

You could buy the package, and sell the Blu-ray´s...

you´ll get some money back, and the player would be cheaper

Pretty much.

They're not going to give you the movers and shakers for free, because you're far more likely to purchase those than these catalog titles

And you can't take them off the shelves because usually 50% of less of people send in rebate/free offers after purchase. Saves money

Simple solution: Get the player, sell the 5 freebies, and use the proceeds to get some titles you do want.

Red face Okay, okay!!!

You all are right, I could take advantage of the offer, pick what I think would be the five most desired titles from each of the categories, and sell the ones I don't want.

But still... lol!!!

Because its for free!!! Why are you complaining? Dumb movies - who cares? You can give them to someone who may like them!

OMG!

I don't think I have ever seen free movies given away with anything that have ever been the best movies to choose from. The Toshiba ones were pretty bad titles.

They're five FREE discs. If you want to simplify things, simply buy the Blu-ray player but DON'T print out the online certificate to mail in. In other words, simply ignore the offer.

That is what I did. I tried to pick movies I thought would be easiest to sell on ebay. I figure worst case scenario I will get $15 for each title after ebay's cut. That will push the price of my new player below $400. I mailed the offer today, I'm curious to see how long it will take to get my movies. I wanted to be one of the first people to get my movies on ebay before an overabundance of these titles drives the price down.

Well put. When I worked in retail, customers would always complain about sending in rebates to save $300. I'd simply tell them not to send them in if they didn't want to mess with rebates. Naturally, they would get mad because then the item would cost more than what is advertised.
It's free money, or movies in this case, that takes just a little time and effort to acquire. It is optional, you don't have to do it.

I think the offer comes from Buena Vista Home entertainment. It's a lot better than the 10 dollars off coupons in the PS3 box. We have a forum to trade movies if you don't want them. I think selling them is going to lose half their price and not the best thing to do.

If you are not impressed by the offer then don't get it. I think the offer is excellent and has a number of good movies.

I wish i did not buy my PS3 before and buy it now to get a five free BD.

Anyway I'm GLAD i did bought it a long time ago and i'm very happy.

This is a great offer to begin experience High Definiton only on BD.
