Default Why bother releasing a dvd boxset

When a blu-ray boxset of movies is released theyre releasing a dvd boxset too at the same time.I think this is a waste of time because if you take the star trek next generation films for example the bonus feature Captain Picard's Family Album on generations has now been taken off the dvds and is now a BD exclusive with many more bonus features that way too.So the new dvds are a downgrade even on the dvds that came before so a complete waste of time.So why do studios feel the need to release these dvd boxsets they must make more than they sell.

It's probably a studio-driven incentive to get people to switch to blu-ray but that's just a random guess by me. Not sure why they do this.

I know what you mean but giving blu-ray more special features than the dvd with a new release makes sence but if youre doing it with movies that have already been released people are going to just keep there dvd with all the special features or decide to upgrade with the blu-ray,why would people want the downgraded dvd lol

It is because of the market. Blu rays haven't completely dethroned dvd yet so there are still a market for them. There are still people who cringe at the price of blu ray and wouldn't mind just having the movies at the lower cost. Only people who specifically want the bonus would feel ripped off.

I guess thats right they are alot cheaper theyre offering 4 films for about £24 in these new dvd boxset releases. In the uk a single big release on blu-ray is only about £6 more than the dvd though i think that difference is well worth paying.

just to throw this out there....the Sopranos boxset is actually better than the individual seasons. some of the seasons in the boxset actually received remasters
