Sony BDP350 wont play some movies - Blu-ray Forum

Hello All,

I have a BDP350 almost a year old that hasn't played the last 2 bluray movies I received from neflix. The player will load and it says "can't play disc". I have verified I have the most recent firmware update. The last time this happened my firmware was out of date and I updated and the disc worked fine. Now I am at a loss. I did the factory reset and still nothing.. I am wondering if I should just send it back for service since it is still under warranty or if there is something else I am missing.

I'm assuming all bluray movies I receive from Netflix are in the correct region as I am in the USA.

I'm in the same boat with my Samsung. Not broken...just won't play Ghostbusters. Samsung won't do anything about it and they're dragging their feet releasing a firmware update to fix...

Which movies? Fellow owners may chime in and tell you it's universal.

Problems playing certain movies is sometimes a problem with blu-ray players. Fortunately, a firmware update will fix the majority of these problems. Call or email Sony about this issue and ask when a new firmware update will be released to address this problem.

To the OP, I also have an S350 and have never had a problem playing a disc (at least that I can remember). Do you have your player connected to the internet via an ethernet cable? I do and every time I power up the player, I always check to see if there is a new firmware update.

If that does not work (I think you have already tried this), I would contact Sony and see what they have to say. Since your warranty may be expiring soon, you should act quickly.

Did you return the disc for another one? It might have been a bad disc.

+1 on that. Been there before, one disc wouldn't play although I couldn't see anything wrong with it but a replacement played just fine.

contacted Sony and it is ironic they seem pretty clueless and wont really try anything except do a factory reset. I would say all of the bluray movies I have rented have played fine with the exception of the above 2 and the 1 I rented which I had to do a firmware update.

thanks bda4life. funny you should mention. I didn't have a lan converter until I realized I had an the original xbox one which works perfect. I verified version and do have it on the player....I will contact Sony again

good feedback. I will report it as damaged and get a replacement. Disc looked in good condition.

Thats strange because my S350 has played everything that I have thrown at it without a glitch. Maybe you got a bad disc?

My girlfriend purchased a used Starship Troopers Blu-Ray disc for me on Saturday, after I inserted the disc I see that its downloading on my tv screen but after that it just wouldn't play the movie. This is the first disc that wouldn't play on my Sony BDP-S350, at this point I'm going to assume it's a bad disc. My girlfriend is taking it back to exchange it, hopefully the next Starship Troopers disc will play.

The only way you will get Starship Troopers to play, is to put a memory card in the back of the player. That particular movie looks for a place to put all the JAVA crap. I own a 350, and that movie, and read about it being a known problem. The memory stick is your only option, for that movie.
