Default What First Made Your Jaw Drop About Blu-ray?!?!

I remember how far my jaw dropped and eyes opened when I first saw the little elephants walking across the sand in the Deserts episode of Planet Earth on Blu!

The clarity was indescribable!

Here is a screenshot of that moment -- Click for Full Image!

LOL how many times has this been asked now? For me the outstanding picture quality of PoTC: CoTBP made my mouth open wide, even in-store at Best Buy. The demo was the fight between Jack Sparrow and Will Turner inside that blacksmith's workshop.

I would love to see that. First thing that made my jaw drop...hmm...had to have been my first showing of mission impossible 3 on blu-ray. That was to me one of the first transfers I was amazed by.

isn't that the scene that had a messed up aspect ratio and it had to be recalled. I have it and have never noticed it but I remember hearing about that.

I still can't tell if my copy is an affected one or not. The scene looks fine to me either way, and from what I understand, it only affects 2-3 shots...something like that.

Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, was amazing for an older film. It looked like it was made along with films being released today.

The high-res, talking skull in the menu was a treat (also the first Blu I watched), as well as the sharp detail in the pirates' makeup was a definite improvement over SDVD.

The very first Blu-ray I watched blew me away pretty quickly, even though it was actually a really "meh" transfer in retrospect. But seeing all of Ed Burn's pores in One Missed Call was both fascinating and kinda gross.

Well I had never actually experienced Bluray aside from what I saw at the stores. I always knew it was amazing but it never gave me the jawdrop moment. But finally after I got my dad to modernize and buy an HDTV and Bluray player, I bought four Blurays. One for me, my mom, my dad, and my younger brother. Sleeping Beauty for my mom, No Country for Old Men for me, The Road Warrior for my dad, and Cars for my brother.

But when I slipped in No Country for Old Men, my jaw fell to the ground after seeing the opening scene when Chigurh is being taken to the jail and he kills the police officer. I was BLOWN away and could not realize what I had been missing for such a long time. I'm the biggest movie fanatic that I know, and I could not believe that I had been missing out on watching my life's passion in such amazing quality.

By the way, this was all during May of 2009. I'm still new to the Bluray format.

There are some shots in Planet Earth that make me wonder where my eyesight ends and the technical achievement of the BD presentation begins

First time was Transformers.

My jaw dropped during Blackout's assault on the army base in Qatar. It wasn't just the picture but the sound. I turned to my girlfriend (who was skeptical that it could look or sound that great) and her jaw was on the floor. We paused it afterwards and both said, "That was the coolest thing I've ever seen and heard."

I still can't believe the first time I saw Robocop in stores it was $35 and I just recently got it for $10, prices have certainly come a long way. Not enough yet though, we need to start seeing $15 as the normal catalog price and $20 as the normal new release price.
