Unhappy Help: I lost my 5.1 Dolby Digital

Edit:I found the solution.

I had to go into the Video Setup section of my PS3 and setup the HDMI audio there (confusing, but oh well). I changed it from Linear to Bitstream and now it works correctly.

Thanks for the input guys!

Hi,

I have a PS3 connected to an LG 42" 1080p LDC TV (Model 42LB5DF) using an HDMI cable. I then go from my TV using an optical audio cable to my receiver, which is a Harmon Kardon AVR7000.

I recently wanted to test an HDMI connection from my TiVo to my TV, so I took the HDMI cable from my PS3, plugged it into my TiVo and watched my TiVo using the HDMI connection. After testing this, I plugged my HDMI cable back into my PS3, and now I no longer get 5.1 Dolby Digital sound on my receiver. I do get sound, but it's showing as PCM on the receiver, and it's only using 2 channels.

I used the display option on the PS3 and it shows that it's sending 5.1 Dolby Digital, so it must be either not sending from the TV, or not picking up on the receiver, but I don't know which.

Can anyone help me figure out how to restore my correct sound using my PS3?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I also wanted to mention, my Xbox 360 is connected to the same TV using HDMI as well and the receiver still outputs 5.1 Dolby Digital from it. I have tried changing HDMI ports and cables with the PS3, but nothing has worked.

Run the optical directly from the PS3 to the receiver. Make sure that you have it set up to output via optical and not HDMI in the GUI.

Go back into the setup options on your PS3, and select DD 5.1 as the output.

The problem with this solution is my other devices will not be able to use the optical connection then. Only my PS3 will be connected this way.

I've done this. One possible issue is there are two PCM options that are preselected and greyed out, so I cannot uncheck them. Again though, if I press the display button on my PS3 remote, the TV displays 5.1 Dolby Digtal, so I *think* the PS3 is sending 5.1 DD to the TV.
