Question Importing a US player to the UK

hi,

Does anyone know of any good us internet sites that will not only ship to the uk but accept payment from uk credit cards... im looking for any of the following :-

Sony BDP-S1
Sony BDP-S300/301
Sony Playstation 3 US model 20GB or 60GB

Sony STR-DG1000
Sony STR-DA3200ES

Sony KDL-40V2500 BRAVIA LCD Television.

I would appreciate any reccomendations or decent substitutes. Though my preference is sony products.

I think most US web sites will take your cash and ship to the UK. But as far as the TV is concerned: buy a UK one. The shipping will be prohibative for something that big!

If the PS3 doesn't have a unversal PSU, you'll need to get yourself a step down transformer. (Cue rant against stupid region enconding: the only thing our HD DVD competitors have got right is the lack of region encoding, IMHO.)

You should be aware that blu ray discs are region coded and that you will be only able to watch US blu ray discs (region A). The same will also apply to DVD (they must be NTSC and region 1); PAL DVD's whatever the region won't play. If you plan to order only US discs, you can go for it. Voltage converters are cheap and easy to find.

PS: For your information BD-R and BD-RE discs are currently not supported by BDP-S300. They will play in BDP-S1 and PS3

i only have us discs, both bluray and dvd so thats not a problem...

which of the kit listed would you recommend?

also i have looked on various us sites and they will either not ship to the uk or wont accept uk credit cards...

does anyone know any specific import sites that will allow me to get this kit from the states?

also where can i get the transformer from to change voltage, and which do you recommend for that too?

US PS3s don't need voltage converters. They have universal ones.

I think that the best way to make your mind is to visit stores and see by yourself how each of the products you mentioned will work. Try to read some reviews on internet or magazines; I did the same before I went shopping...
You can find websites who will ship worldwide. The links hereunder are for recommended websites.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/3results...&sb=ps&sq=desc

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...x=7&image1.y=8

Again, before you make your decision, take in account that the shipping costs for international orders can be pretty high and your shipment will go thru the customs in the UK (contact them about the import tax and VAT).

I can provide you with links for voltage transformers but for the reasons hereabove, I'm pretty sure that it will be cheaper in the UK.

Hope it helps
