France Angst (Schizophrenia) (Gerald Kargl)

Quote:
French label Carlotta Films has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray Austrian director Gerald Kargl's Angst a.k.a Schizophrenia (1983), starring Erwin Leder, Robert Hunger-Bühler and Silvia Rabenreither. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is July 4th.

Lensed by acclaimed Polish cinematographer Zbigniew Rybczynski (Tango) and boasting a music score by Klaus Schulze (Manhunter), Schizophrenia tells the story of a psychopath recently released from prison.

can't believe I've never heard of this one...looks like a real treat. Anyone seen it? Trailer looks similar to a argento/depalma type vibe.

It has been difficult to see on DVD. There have been two German DVDs, but these were not English-friendly. A label called Barrel Entertainment was working on a special edition for the US market before they went out of business (in 2006, if I recall).

While I am not expecting the Carlotta release to be English-friendly either, I understand there is limited dialogue in the film, and a Blu-ray release is certainly an unexpected and most welcome surprise.

I own the German DVD and the movie is disturbingly brilliant. I'll have to keep an eye out for the Blu-ray release.

Dust Devil,

Carlotta Films do not use forced/imposed subs. None of the discs I have from them have forced subs - and I have basically everything they have released, excluding Jeannot....

The cinematography may be stylish, but it's nothing like the films of either of those directors. Angst is closer to Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Maniac, and Citizen X.

Hi, does anyone know if it has a scene missing. Because the Cult Epic release has a runtime of 83minutes (which is 4 minutes longer). I've heard that there might be a "murder scene" missing in the Carlotta release. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

This is the prologue of the film, made at the request of the distributor to lengthen the duration of the film (79 min), with this scene the film lasts 86 min. This scene is present in the extras and launches automatically at the beginning of the movie.

Has anyone compared the US Cult Epic release to the french release?
The US release has compression artifacts.
And what about the german 5.1 sound mix of the US, is it alot better than 1.0 Mono?
