I don't think its illegal to break street date. A store may get a hefty fine and employee(s) may loose their job or even worse not be able to purchase future product from the specific studio. I don't see anyone going to jail over breaking street date. I am sure our legal system has more to worry about them someone getting a Blu-ray or a game a few weeks early.

Genuine question--- how can it be ILLEGAL to buy a genuine product if and only if it is before "release day"? Companies prerelease items to certain customers very frequently; And if it is really illegal to buy a genuine product before the marketing departments release date for that geography, that is the case is everyone that buys blu's from the uk breaking the law? I highly doubt that it is illegal. It may be against the company policy and a retailer could be sued for breech of contract; but I highly doubt it is ILLEGAL to purchase something a week before walmart can sell it. Again if it is genuine. Please enlighten me if I am blatantly wrong.

Your understanding of the law is not correct. But, it is doubtful the police will be knocking at your door anytime soon. Good luck.

uhhhhhh, IT IS NOT ILLEGAL to buy a movie before street dates. the studios do NOT have any legal hold over a retailer from selling their product early. they have the OPTION of fining said retailer or withholding stock from them but no law or law enforcement acts can be taken into effect.
