Smile Ps3

I am going to be getting a bluray player of some sort soon, and my xbox 360 has just died on me. Because I can't be bothered to buy a new 360, should I just buy a PS3?

Can somebody please answer a few questions

-Do blurays play really well on the PS3
-Does the PS3 have an annoying loud fan, making movies hard to watch
-Can you plug sound surround speakers into the PS3
-Does it convert the audio, or do I need one of those damn audio converters
-Does it work with BD-Live

Thanks so much

If you play video games and you're looking for a Blu-Ray player then the PS3 is perfect.

It doesn't play all regions, no.

I don't believe any unmodified Blu-ray player will play all region dvds, and there definitely isn't one that plays all region Blu-rays.

Depends what you want to do really.
If you want a system that can play HD games and play Blu Rays/ DVDs, the PS3 is a shoe in.

1) Do Blu Rays play well on PS3: Yes, it's one of the ebst players around, both for quality of playback and extraneous functionalities.
Criterion uses a PS3 as their reference player (as far as we know)
2) Does the PS3 have a loud fan: Not really. The original 60Gb, or so I heard, coudl be loud at times. I have never heard my 40Gb (sitting under the TV in a open stand), and it seems the Slim will be even quieter still.
3) Surround speakers and the PS3: You can plug the PS3 with basic PC type speakers with tthe stereo analogue out. you can pluyg the PS3 in a basic amplifier using the digital out. You can also (and it's recommanded) use the HDMI out in a modern Amp to benefit from advanced audio options (such as the HD audio codecs, for compatible Amplifiers)
4) Does it convert Audio? - not sure what you mean, cf above.
5) Does it work with BD Live: Yes, and it's one of the fastest players in doing so

As per dezoning, if it is -that- important, you can always go for a cheap BD dezoned BD player (or DVD player) + a PS3, but I don't see how it is -that- important really...

By the way, there are Italics tags.

He pretty much answered everything really. If you're bothered by the region-lock then maybe you should get a standalone and another 360.

If you are not going to play games, get one of the newer blu-ray players as they are as good if not better than the PS3 and cost less.
If you want to play games and watch blu-rays, then the choice is obvious.

I know this is just my opinion. But I don't believe any Standalone is as good or better then the PS3. but costing less? yes I agree wiht you on that.

Sorry I'm just a HUGE PS3 fan and supporter.

To believe something is better does not make it better when it's not the best.
Look what happened to the HD DVD believers.

The lack of an IR remote and a display are enough to some people to turn them off from the PS3, as well as the lack of analog outputs if you have an older receiver without HDMI. I have 2 PS3s and they are great gaming machines and good movie players but if you don't care about game playing then there are better options.
