Default The Secret of Kells

Coming October 5.

The Secret of Kells Blu-ray Review

Anyone getting this? I heard about the movie when it was nominated for a Academy Award for Best Animated Film (whereas Ponyo didn't) earlier this year, but I forgot all about it. I imagine this will look fantastic on Blu-ray.

I missed this in theaters, but I'll be renting it as soon as it comes out - The art style looks like it would be amazing on Blu Ray. Definitely excited to see it!

The only thing is that it's pretty expensive on Amazon. $35.99 is too high...but it'll probably come down (hopefully to How to Train Your Dragon price $24.99)

Let me put it this way:

Cats&Dogs 2 should be sold for 10 bucks.
Toy Story 3 should be sold for 20 bucks.
The Secret of Kells should be sold for 30 bucks.

You are paying for a seriously-made quality film - whatever amount the stores sell this film for, you will be getting a bargain.

I haven't been this excited for a release since Ponyo came out on blu.
Hopefully I'll be able to actually pick it up in-store somewhere on release day, because it's somewhat under the radar.

Day One impulse buy for me. The Trailer was impressive. And I love HD animation.

I am an animation nut, I have heard nothing but good things. I am giving this a pure blind buy and hoping for the best. Last time I did that it didn't turn out that great (Ponyo) but I am hoping for better this time around!

Does the Blu-Ray include all the extras from the Irish DVD release?

The Irish DVD release offered the following extras:
Director commentary
Extended sequences
Behind the Scenes at Digital Graphics, Belgium
From Pencil to Final Picture - Clip 1
From Pencil to Final Picture - Clip 2
Short film - Cuilin Dualach
Secret of the Kells Trailer
Galleries (Scene Illustrations, Characters, Visual Development, Background & Props)

Finally is the Blu-Ray region free?

Here's the pic of the back. Not sure if it's region free or not.

You didn't like PONYO? That's unfortunate.

This is a great film, I caught it back in the early part of the year and was pretty upset that it was only being released on DVD, didn't buy it in hope that it would eventually be released on blu. Glad I waited. I'll definitely be picking this up when it comes down in a price a little.

Any one who hasn't seen it I recommend the blind buy if you like animation.

Question, Was this film always in English? Or is this a new English dub? Are there any other spoken language tracks and subtitles?

So it's DTS 5.1 instead of Dolby 2.0 as indicated on the site... phew! Almost a dealbreaker there.
