I think he is asking for advice on which version to get, not where to get it.

-Region free: Both releases are reportedly region-free.
-Force Subs: The French version is not released from TF1, so I don't think it has forced subs.
-Money:
(quotes are as of 7/10/09 when I posted this up)
For one copy:
German (off amazon) 26.04E + 14.00E = 40.04E or $58.14US.
France (off amazon) 16.71E + 10.90E = 27.61E or around $38.57US (used xe.com since amazon doesn't quote the total in $'s)

For two copies:
German (off amazon) 52.08E + 14.00E = 66.08E or $95.95US ($47.98 per copy)
France(off amazon) 33.42E +12.80E = 46.22E or around $64.46US ($32.23 per copy)

-Best Overall: That's a tough one. I'm still not sure which one I like the best. I like that the French one has artwork inside, but it also has a blue banner on the front cover, and French text on the back. The German one has no blue banner, but it has the big ratings logo on the front. You can flip it and use the back as the front, but I think the disc will then be held on the left inside the case, and the writing inside will be upside. I'm leaning towards the German one for the nice clean look of the back cover that can be used. I can't read German or French, so having no writing on the outside of the German one is also a plus. I just hate the inside of the German one. I think I'd rather have a blu-ribbon free cover. Right now the price is better though for the French version.

So:
French
+ price
+ inner artwork
+ no huge ratings logo on cover
- blue banner (unless you like the blue banner)
- text all on the back (unless you like having the details on the back)

German
+no blue banner
+ no text all over the back
+ you can flip the sb to let the cover without the ratings logo be in front
+if you flip it, I think the spine will read from top to bottom
- huge ratings logo on the front (or back if you flip it)
- inner artwork is nothing more than German text that is normally on the back cover
- price is higher

Discs for both releases appear to be identical, but I'm not sure. Pictures of them seem to suggest this though. What is crazy is that for just a few dollars more, you can order 2 copies of the French one as opposed to one copy of the German one.

backing up what mr. b said, There are no forced subs on the French version(I can personally vouch on that) and so far the price keeps dropping on the french version so the French version wins 3 of the 4 factors. As far as best overall looking, I would say thats a matter of preference. So far I only have the french one and cant comment on the German one but it looks enticing as well.

It is 1 to 2 months shipping time for the Amazon.fr Gran Torino. It may have delayed the rest of your order and whether or not you received steelsbooks or not.

I'm probably going to break my rule of no dup's on this one since I liked the movie. If I can buy two copies of 10,000 BC, then I'm pretty sure I can justify buying both copies of Gran Torino. I don't think I can come to a final decision on which one to get. I keep leaning more and more towards the German one 'cos I prefer no blue banner on the front covers, and the spine would read the way I like if I flipped it and put the ratings logo on the back. It is going to bother me constantly though when I open it up and look at the inside of it all the while knowing that there is that French one out there with much a nicer looking interior. The price on the French one is almost too good to pass up right now also. I'm not sure when I'm going to order it though; I have to wait for more funds to materialize. Hopefully, it will still be on sale when I can place an order. I don't think I have ANY French steelbooks right now anyway. If I do decide to keep only one, I'm sure the French GT will make a good trade piece for something else, or maybe the German one, . . . or maybe the French one, or . . . .

You OCD guys are rubbing off on me. I just hope I don't become full OCD; my wife might have me institutionalized!

I am currently in the process of getting our membership cards reprinted and resealed as I just discovered that the printing factory was not hermetically sealed as per my specifications. I will add your name to the list of new-members

If I skip a Steel and it goes OOP before I buy it that will be enough to get me institutionalized!

LOL! Maybe we'll be roommates! At least we'll already have something in common to talk about.

Oh, and crash, I open mine up, so I don't have a problem with my membership being properly sealed, but I do want the card to be as pristine as possible, and I want it printed, no stickers on the card please.

Sorry to bump this thread. But I'm after the French version and it appears it doesn't state STEELBOOK in the title at amazon.

Can someone tell me if they ordered from here -

http://www.amazon.fr/Gran-Torino-Blu...5566530&sr=8-1

And got the steelbook?

Cheers.

I believe that's the one I ordered and yes I got a steel... same for 3:10 to Yuma if you want to try your luck there.

I contacted customer service first before I ordered to confirm.

All I can add to the conversation is the fact that the SteelBook is the only version I've seen in stores.
