XBox 360 33% failure rate!?!? How is that even legal?

I'd of had a 100% failure rate if I bought one of those jalopies cause I'd of thrown it through a wall.

I doubt the 360s failure rate is that high. But, I will say it's definitely higher than normal. Not to mention there is a design flaw with it when almost all people experience the same problem. Having said that, the PS3s reliability is top notch and I give SONY big kudos for that.

I agree. It does seem a little sensationalistic.
Especially since I've seen how some people treat their systems. I've gone to friends houses and warned them to get the thing off the carpet.

You can doubt that number all you want, but fact is that is the number from retailer outlet's on how many have been returned. I think I will take that number more than a personal estimation.

This not sensationalism ! The 33% failure rate is realistic if not higher ! No need to sugar coat it, the 360 is a ****** system bottom line.

yeah i have come across a few articles regarding this issue as well.

http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Home/D3Q7G8S2
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/take-that...ent-275179.php

i also have some friends who have had their xbox die after only 4 months.
Take it as you may, but if it looks and performs like a lemon, most likely it's a lemon.

That was from a survey taken from retailers. That's about as good as it gets without MS releasing an accurate report. This is also being reflected by UK retailers as well.

It might even be higher than that. If MS had a much lower rate of failure, they would have released those numbers by now.

In other words, believe it.

The 2005/6 and early 07 360s do have a 33% failure rate, even ask the people that make it. But i think now they have ruduced it down a bit, but its still high.

No reason to believe it is any different. It looks like a design flaw and they haven't redesigned it.

If the failure rate is truly that high, I'm surprised one of two things haven't happened; that there hasn't been a massive recall of 360s or that there hasn't been a class action lawsuit filed against Microsoft. But then again, I guess that's why they extended their warranty. I know I can attest to the fact that they will eventually crap out on you(the one I bought at launch and the one that replaced it) and most of my friends haven't bought one because of the fact that they will crap out on you and have either bought or are waiting to buy a PS3. I'll admit the 360 has a better selection of games right now, but it's almost like playing Let's Make A Deal when buy one. If you're lucky and take the curtain, you'll get one that won't brick, but if you take the box, you'll get some crap for your troubles.

You know what. The rate 33% is high but I can say 95% of the people I have spoken to, has had to get there 360 replaced. Maybe the rate is higher?

The sad thing is, a lot of times the 360 will just die without warning. That's what happened to my first one. I thought I was lucky cause my 360 lasted almost a year. But one day I turn it on to listen to some music, and it was dead - rings of death. I got another one through my warranty with Best Buy, but this one seems louder than usual, and has freezed quite a few times. It's only a matter of time before this one craps out too.

Not really. Much like a survery taken from a small selection of people, or one person winning the lottery, this is not fact. It's an estimate based on statistical extrapolation, not fact. There is a difference.

33% is so high, it's not beleivable. Recalls happen way before that

I am one my third (switched to elite), my brother is on his second, 5 of my friends on on there second or third and one friend is on his 5th. Its just part of owning a xbox 360 because none of them own a PS3 or plan on doing so. All of them never owned a xbox but they all owned a PS2.
