Default Speaker Help Needed

Hi there, I've recently bought a pair of Q acoustics 1050s, and an Onkyo 605. Prior to this I had Logitechs Z-5400 surrounds, which I was fairly pleased with. With the addition of HD audio and a beefier set of speakers I was hoping there would be some improvement. However the speakers perform poorly, give a strange muffled sound that even my computer speakers could rival in the high end. There must be something I've done wrong, because both speakers do the same thing. So it can't be a defect. As of late, I've noticed the Tweeter doesn't produce any sound which is probably the root of the problem. I've wondered if they arn't on full band, but surely that shouldn't change whether the tweeter should work or not.

Here's the way I've wired them:

If I wire them any other way they produce no sound, other than the top two, which produce a very high pitch soundtrack from the movie.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Loui.

Looks like the speakers are meant to be bi-amped or bi-wired. Did they not come with brass jumpers that connect the top and bottom binding posts? If you can't, or don't want to biamp the speakers you need to make a jumper to connect the two black posts together, and the two red posts together.

Hmm I'm afraid your talking to a bit of a newb haha! I know about Bi-wiring, but I don't want to do that. Brass Jumpers? Are these the ones you mean? If so what should I do with them?

You can also bi-wire which eliminates the need for an additional amp as well as the jumpers and will give you sound on all speakers. Otherwise, the jumpers need to be connected vertically so both black posts share one connection and the two red posts share the other.

Yes you just unscrew the posts enough to stick those jumpers in between the two post then screw the posts back down and reconnect your banana plugs into them. Basically you only heard high pitched noise because your reciever was only running the tweeters on the speakers and not the woofers because one set of the post are for the tweeters and the other is for the woofers so when they are connected by those brass jumpers they aren't even getting used.
