Default Samsung Sound Issues via PS3

Hey guys,

I have the "LE40B551A" which is great when you don't need to play BD's via the PS3 but I would like to watch 2 films I bought recently and it is getting on my nerves.

First question is related to playback of Blu-ray's via my PS3. I understand that I only have 2 channel output as it is going through the TV and not going to a dedicated sound system (don't have the money for one) but that shouldn't cause an issue where all I hear is the background Music even when I turn up the sound to 100.

I have played around with the PS3 settings and can't find a fault in the PS3 as it was fine with the LG I used to have, so it has to be the TV is there anything I can do to fix it?

On a side note, is there any advice people could give me to get best picture quality from Blu-ray's, PS3 games and Sky HD broadcasts (so how do I calibrate it?). Played around with it myself but tbh I have no clue what I am doing lol.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Northy

Could you please tell us little more about your system configuration. How do you connect PS3 to TV set is it HDMI? Do you use any other audio cables apart from HDMI?

About video, if it is via HDMI, set PS3 to 1080P and 24Hz off (if the TV is not capable of 24 Hz). The members would be able to help you more, once you post little more about your configuration.

In that case, have you tried setting PS3 to 2 channel PCM through HDMI.

Yh but that doesn't solve it. I get sound just I don't get the dialogue mainly the background music and that is when it is 100% up.

Try LPCM 2 Ch 44.1 or 48 KHz, one of these should work.

PS3 manual:
Hints
[Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio is set to be output from all output connectors by default. If you change the audio output settings, audio will be output only from the connectors that were set.

If you change the audio output settings, the system will no longer be able to output audio from multiple output connectors at the same time. For example, if your system is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable and to an audio device via a digital optical cable and you switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings], audio will no longer be output from the TV. To output audio from the TV, switch the setting to [HDMI], or select (Settings) > (Sound Settings) > [Audio Multi-Output] and set the option to [On].

If you select [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] or [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] in step 5, sound may be intermittent or may not be emitted from some audio devices.

When using an HDMI cable, only [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio will be output from PlayStation®2 and PlayStation® format software. To output Dolby Digital or DTS audio, you must connect the PS3™ system and the audio device using a digital optical cable and switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings].

If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.
