Default Anyone take notes for games?

Hey all,

I picked up Batman AA at lunch today. Probably won't get to play it for a while since I have 3 box sets to get through first lol. (man sept is going to hurt my wallet)

But anyway I glanced through the booklet and saw at the end the "notes" section. Video games have had around 2-4 blank pages at the end of every instruction booklet labeled "Notes" for as long as I can remember. At least original Gameboy maybe earlier.

so who uses them? I dont fault anyone who would. I've sratched codes and such on walkthrough books or scratch paper. Never even thought to go to the booklet. But since manufacturers still do it there must be a reason. rignt?

thoughts?

I used to do this back in the PC gaming days where games sometimes had infinite depth and there was a ton of stuff to remember (think Ultima games where you had to write down spells and whatnot).

I haven't done it in years though with little exception. Most games simply don't require it anymore.

back in the day older games had spots in the instruction manuals for notes.. Nowadays I get the impression most people don't even read manuals.

Oh imagine the horror of having to write down a password for Metroid or Kid Icarus Probably be an outrcry if that was required now.

Yea most people dont even look at the instruction book. Thats why they put tutorials in the games.

Never thought about it before, but you're right. Usually I jot something down on a scrap of paper and put it in front of the booklet so it catches my eye as soon as I open the case. I go to great lengths to keep my discs and cases in mint condition, so the idea of marking up the booklet is something of a foreign concept (for me at least).

Could be the manufacturers are giving us a dedicated location to store information for later reference (for those that want to use it), but with as much information as we have available at our fingertips via the internet, it does seem the notes section in the booklets is unnecessary.

As they say, to each his own. Maybe it's one of those things that the manufacturers continue to do simply because it's always been done that way?

yeah I remember the good (or is it bad) old days of codes after a completed level so you could skip it next time. or how about the crazy alphanumeric cheat codes?

man, I remember a game had to be beaten in a single sitting if you ever wanted to do it. Maybe thats why I only got into games around ps1/n64 generation when things had saves. lol
