Default Help Me Choose A Subwoofer!

Hey there. I currently am without a subwoofer and i would really like to get one. I was always considering the Klipsch 10" or 12" subwoofer because i wanted to stick with the brand. I have the Quintet III speaker system.

I am only looking to spend between 300 and 500 dollars. What can you suggest?

If you can put up an extra $60 (plus shipping), I would recommend the SVS PC12-NSD

SVS PC12-NSD

If the sub and shipping must stay below $500, then I say the eD A2-300

eD A2-300

About how big would you say the SVS is?

Its tall, but it has a smaller footprint than most subs in this price range, which provides you with some add'l room when trying to find the perfect location for your sub. Plus they look amazing and perform even better.

Have you considered buying two subs? This would create a more stable spread of bass within the room, which would widen the "sweet" spot. As I've seen suggested multiple times in this forum, is that for best results, it's better to have a even number of subs (ie. 2, 4, 6, 308).

Now, if I had 500$ to spend on sub(s), and not get nagged at by the g/f. I would either pick one of the two subs Forsberg suggested or two HD-SUB12's from Acoustic Audio. You could also get one of the eD/SVS subs now, and add a second one down the road. Your call.

There are lots of options in that price range, just keep your options open. I'm sure Big Daddy will chime in here pretty soon with a plethora of options.

This is excellent advise, and I didn't think of it. 2 subs is almost always better than one. You could get 2 AA subs as Icecold suggested or even 2 PA-120 subs for just around $500.

Ok well before we go in to more, i have my set-up in my bedroom. I do not have much room. Two subs might be a little too much. I plan on putting some pics up when i get everything situated. Wires are everywhere.

Or one eD A5-350 (old style, down firing) if they have any left for $575 shipped. Just a little over budget but an awesome deal.

***EDIT*** Might be to big of a footprint for you're room.

The it appears that space is more into play with your decision than your budget. 2 subs probably would be too much space taken. If I were you, look at the dimensions of AA subs, the PA-120, and the eD sub, they are all in your budget and are excellent subs. I think the PC12-NSD might overly-dominate your bedroom.

Might be better to go with a SVS sub if you're limited on space.

Could always dial it down :P

Mike, would this system always be in the bedroom or would it possibly be moved to a bigger room later on?

It would take up less space with the footprint for sure, but at 3 feet tall, would it be overkill? If we could see the room, it would sure help.

You don't have to stick to the same brand, but I will tell you that the Klipsch sub-12 does hit hard and will fill a room. When I first heard it I bought two of them, but when I got them home one was too much for my apt.

It was about 6 months later I decided to hook the second sub up, but just turn down the gain on both of them.

Right now Vanns has the Sub-12 and Sub-10 for the same price of $399 and free shipping.
