When the 3.0 firmware update came out a few issues arose like game freezing, but also the synching of remotes. As more people started looking into it and getting the manufacturing numbers on those remotes it came to light that they are counterfeits.
Most of these counterfeit remotes are coming from Hong Kong and are being purchased off of ebay. As you all know with ebay they wont do a thing about stopping it, so these fake remotes are going to become widespread. Sony with this update was able to block these remotes, but will not comment on it. As I was digging around a little more I found this article on a G4 blog, and a video of a guy going over the differences of a fake and real remote. He was one who purchased a white remote off of US ebay. http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/69...ntrollers.html |

Also, if that is the case, then it may explain some of the report from forum members complaining about Drake's Fortune freezing during gameplay. Perhaps they have been using a aftermarket remote that causes the game to freeze.

I would imagine Play-Asia is safe to buy from. This sounds like more of a counterfeit ring using ebay as a way of selling them. I would also imagine Play-Asia is buying direct from the manufacture and not some outside source. So breathe easier for those of you that purchased remotes from Play-Asia.

These remotes are all over ebay from Hong Kong, I was just browsing the site. Feedback is starting to be left for some of these sellers as being fake, but unfortunately they're still selling them and people are still bidding on them.
I almost want to set up a auction for purposes of getting the word out, but I know ebay would shut the listing down. I had done it before for fake signed Harry Potter books(I'm a book collector), and ebay threatened me with banning me from their site. Ebay doesn't care they just want the $$$$$, so they can pull themselves out of all the stupid investments they've made. Skype was brilliant, way to loose millions on that one, well actually glad we ebay members could buy it for them with the increase in fee's for that supposed purchase. If this is true then I certainly can't blame Sony as long as they didn't screw up the Official and licensed Third-Party controllers. Personally I avoid Third-Party controllers as they tend to be cheap pieces of crap that break within a few months but that's beside the point. Anyway, counterfeit controllers really hurt Sony and the other companies just like counterfeit money hurts our economy. It just sucks for the people that unknowingly purchased these fake controllers. If they bought one on purpose just to save a few dollars then jokes on them now!

That is a shame for those that bought them. I didn't even know such a thing existed.

Sony found out about these counterfeit controllers being made and within the 3.0 update caused these fake/counterfeit controllers to no longer synch. The problem i'm sure will continue, it's just a matter of time till they figure out the new signal,if that's all they did,and Sony will have to do this all over again. Sony needed to do something about it, it carried their name on it. I wonder if someone sent one in to get fixed? I could only imagine "Whoa wait a minute this remote isn't ours it's a piece of crap, a working piece of crap though". Sony is taking a hit by these counterfeit controllers, especially with each one of the legit Sony remotes going for around $50. |
