Default HD-DUD backers getting even more desperate

Now they're pleading to the independent filmmakers for support.

http://blogs.pcworld.com/digitalworl..._goes_ind.html

Next thing you know they'll be handing out free players as well.

It won't work with me. I'm an independent, and I won't cave.

I read somewhere that this agreement is not exclusive and that BD could also get the same deal if they wanted... can't remember where though... Might've been a thread on this site.

While Amazon may be the Wal-mart of the internet, they amount to a relatively small percentage of sales compared to brick and mortar retail. Any independent that wants to get there product to the masses will need to solicit through BB, CC, etc. If this is Microsofts best answer to the Bb news, they might as well stop trying now before they embarass themselves even more.

This is not a factor in the War.

As much as I like Indie films and wish their success the general public has no idea about the vast majority of them.

That being said it's nice to see the Olive Branch extended to them. With HD cameras becoming more and more inexpensive I see a sea change movement from SD to HD distribution at all levels.

The only thing HD has going for it is region coding. They need to use that to show why HD-DVD is better. It's something that no one here can defend.

France is getting releases we don't have. This would tick off any "red blooded American" shopping at Walmart.

Foreign language films are not making it over here. This would anger film lovers. It's too bad too because we will be able to download subtitles in English. If only we could play the disc.

The only thing that's funny, the only thing that keeps indies from authoring in BD [or WMV-HD or whatever it's called] are the rules [if that, I haven't looked into it to be honest].

Once the encode is done, the service is fully capable of pressing it to any of those other mediums as well.

LOL,
I’m sure you are aware of the fact that the filmmaker forums are just buzzing with this news.

I would have thought that a sincere sympathetic mindset towards independent filmmakers by the software company would have initially encompassed dealings with a fellow insider (Richard Casey) in the neighborhood that they both live in, i.e. AVM$.

But, I guess individual customer service doesn't garner as much mainstream press.

Amazon is already selling HDNet shows on BDR.

The 'indie film' deal is non-news - it obviously plays for both sides.

Big thing I see with it is MS getting to push VC-1 more.
