Default What speakers to get

Hey I'm starting to get my home theater started and wanted to see what people thought about the floor speakers I'm looking at getting.

Polk Audio Monitor 70 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Black)
http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Mon...2294568&sr=8-1

or

Sony SSF-5000 Floor Standing 3-way Speaker (Pair)
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SSF-5000-...2295008&sr=1-1

Thanks for the help.

I used to have the Sony speakers and I can tell you that you should go with the Polk Monitor 70s. The Polks are the better speakers, they will be more detailed and less muddled sounding.

Polk's aren't to much more anyway. I'm using them for blu-ray and music mostly (Rock).

The Polk's are definitely the better speaker as Callas stated. I think that you should also consider THESE Energy speakers for the same price. I think you might like these better than the Polk's. If you don't mind silver then they also have those for $139.00 each.

Sony isn't exactly known for their speakers. Definitely go with the Polks.

Also from Energy you can look at these, they have them in cherry and they are better then polk, esp. if you are going to be listening to music, they are fantasic speakers when playing music and very, very good at HT too... Of course I say that because I have them and love them....

Center channel $70

Energy C-300s $260/pr

In case you didn't get my message yet Callas they are the Take TWR tower speakers. They have the black ones on sale for $199 and the silver ones for $139 both with free shipping.

Those are nice but really skinny. I have 5 cats so I want some speakers with some weight to ensure they can't knock them down.

They weight 23lbs. each and have a base so I don't think that you would have to worry about them getting knocked over. The sound will be better than those Polk's IMO. You should also consider the Energy speakers Callas suggested. Polk makes good speakers, but I think if you hear Energy you will prefer the sound over the Polk's. Just my opinion.

I understand. I have 3 cats and they all jump atop my Energy C-300s... good thing they weigh 36 pounds ea...

The Take towers are nice, but they don't get as low on the frequency response as the C series does. but they are a nice speaker.

You can also get a Pair of these RC-30s for $480......... regularly they would be about $1100/pr and then add the RC-Mini center for $200 more.... depends on your budget though.

I'm looking to only spend about 3,000 for front, rear, center speaker. Sub and a New T.V. Still using old Panny tube TV from 1995.

OK, well, Let me suggest

Panny Plasma 46" $1191
Energy RC-50s $800/pr
RC-LCR $300
RC-10s $300
Elemental Designs A2-300 Sub $350

Total $2941

You system would be a top of the line setup and excell for HT and Music.
