I had to go for Lawrence of Arabia, but The Apartment and The Sound of Music are two of my favorite films.

I can count the number of musicals that I really like in 1 hand but
I gotta go with WEST SIDE STORY--- I saw it many times as a kid
growing up so it surely has great sentimental value to me---

love the songs, the emotional ending, the story itself...

I have only seen 2 of these movies, Lawrence of Arabia (which I didn't really like as much as other people led me to believe I would) and The Sound of Music.

When I was younger I watched The Sound of Music countless times and to this day still enjoy it. It is a great movie with classic music.

Also it is one of only 2 musicals that I can actually stand, with the other being Sweeney Todd.

So try not to laugh too much, but my vote goes to The Sound of Music.

I have to go with Lawrence of Arabia. Although I have seen a lot of films that were nominated in the 60's I haven't seen a lot of the winners so I can't comment too much.

I have seen West Side Story and Sound of Music and it definitely cannot be either one of them.

A lot of great films and performances. Great performances by Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy. But my favorite and I am sorry that Peter O'toole has never won an Oscar, is Lawrence of Arabia.

Lawrence of Arabia. I saw it in the theater when I was a kid and have been hooked since. Visually stunning.

I've seen all of these, and they were quite good. Ok, I absolutely HATED Tom Jones, but the rest were great. As for my favorite, I was tempted to pick Lawerence of Arabia, but I ended up going with The Apartment. I just love that movie and think it has more replay value for me. Jack Lemmon was fantastic in it.

For the record, I think Tom Jones is the worst movie to ever win Best Picture. It was a mess. All IMO of course.

another tough decade to vote..but In Heat of the Night, as it marked the beginning of more darker films hollywood would produce throughout the 70's

More than that, arguably the greatest movie of the decade: Lawrence is the Gone with the Wind of the 60’s.

Though here are other contenders:

Psycho (1960)
The Apartment (1960)
The Magnificent Seven (1960)
West Side Story (1961)
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
The Birds (1963)
The Great Escape (1964)
My Fair Lady (1964)
Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Stopped Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
The Sound of Music (1965)
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966)
Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
In The Heat of the Night (1967)
The Graduate (1967)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)
The Producers (1968)
The Wild Bunch (1969)

Of these BP winners: it is the biggest picture of the bunch.

Good Ol' Larry of Arkansas here too....... This was by far the easiest decade to make a selection in..... but it still wasn't too easy, as I love many of the movies, and Midnight Cowboy is right up there.
