Default Gladiator and Braveheart Reviews

I am wondering why the reviews for Gladiator and Braveheart were not posted in a timely manner? I can understand that the reviews have to be "worked" in a logical order. In addition, the availability of titles can delay some reviews. However, during the past week the forum has added a number of catalog reviews for which the interest is nill. Not too many catalog releases arrive with the kind of interest that Gladiator and Braveheart bring. I think that the before mentioned titles should have been given top priority, and not have the reviews posted after the movies are available for purchase. I would have appreciated a review of Gladiator without having the reviewer be biased by the negativity surrounding the reviews. The longer until a review is published, the more likely it is to "fit in" with the already published reviews. With all due respect, what is the story here?

Trading forum...but to answer...

I believe that it is because even the review copies weren't readily available, that's what I was told anyway.

I've tried to post this around the forum in the various Gladiator/Braveheart threads but I think people miss it since it keeps falling back in the thread as more posts are added...

This is from Martin, the reviewer on here who will be responsible for evaluating Braveheart and Gladiator. It sucks they didn't have screeners in time, but as you can see, he's still going out of his way and spending his own money to help us out

I'll be at Target at 8AM tomorrow morning (EDIT: This means today) to buy both Braveheart and Gladiator and I'll review one tomorrow and one Wednesday. 3 hour movie + loads of extras = one day of work each.

Yup, screeners have yet to be delivered from the studio/public relations firm. I have both discs in hand, but had to purchase them locally this morning. You'll notice that no other website but one (that I know of) had a review up before today.

Thanks a lot. Raises a lot of doubt when copies are not made available to the reviewers before release.

So why do you think that is?
Seems like Paramount had something to hide.

Was kind of hoping Gladiator would be reviewed first, since it has all the controversy. I'm definitely picking up Braveheart, and the review was great, but I'm waiting to see more reviews come in for Gladiator. As a result, I'm waiting on both titles thanks to the Best Buy deal.

Even if this weren't illegal and was possible, it still isn't going to be indicative of the video and audio quality of the disc.

While this is an unusual move for Paramount, it's not at all unusual throughout the industry. Fox/MGM flat out don't deliver product until after street date; Lionsgate and Universal have been known not to send screeners of lesser-selling discs; and word has it Warner won't be sending screeners for any of their September 8 catalogue titles.

Even the generally more reliable studios seem to be falling a bit behind; I still have yet to receive 3 September 8 titles from two studios that usually send product weeks in advance.

My apologies for jumping the gun on the Braveheart and Gladiator reviews...lets blame my ignorance for that, and I appreciate your input. Great job on your reviews of Gladiator and Braveheart. Your review of Gladiator was very informative. You just presented the "facts" and flaws as you perceived them, and left the final word on the quality of the PQ up to the individual viewer. I do disagree with giving Gladiator (movie) four stars instead of five, but that is life. Once again...thanks!

Nicely-worded reviews, Martin. Thanks again for going out of your way to get them to us as soon as possible.

Just read the review.......I'll not be dipping for now. Hopefully there will be a re-release at some point, but my hard-earned dollar won't see it spent on this.

Wanted to come back and thank you guys for the good reviews of these titles. Felt you outlined any and all issues pretty well and did a good job.
