Default Bond, Blu-ray and HD? Could it be?

This is a copy of a thread I started over at AVSForum
Comments?

First off, this is just pure speculation on my part, but does this make any
sense to anyone else.

1. Lowery Digital is making very, very expensive 4k masters of 9 of the
classic Bond movies. They say it is to go with a new Bond movie late 2005.

Doing all that for a promo for a another Bond movie? Seems a tad
excessive to me.

2. Sony has plans to intro the Blu-Ray systems late 2005.

The only titles will be "new releases" from Columbia Tri/Star.
Sounds like a classic chicken and egg situation to me. Do you buy a
player and wait for movies or wait and see what is released to see if
it is worth buying a player?

3. Sony announces partnership to buy MGM studios, who just happens to
own the old Bond movies and will have freshly minted 4K masters to
add to the collection.

Hum.. wouldn't think Sony would go after MGM just to get the Bond stuff,
but it could be just the icing to frost a Blu-Ray cake...

4. Sony has to kick off the Blu-Ray line with bang and what better way
than to do it with one of the best know movie franchises in all of
moviedom.

They could ship the new Blu-Ray players with the Bond films to kick start
the line. Can you see a new Blu-Ray under the Christmas tree, complete
with a freshly mastered HD Bond collection?

So what do you guys think?..
