United Kingdom We can kiss goodbye to Oct/Nov deliveries!

Royal Mail are in a last-ditch effort to avoid national strikes but if they don't accept the new deal we can expect the first strike in 8 days time. I have loads of Blu-ray's pre-ordered thru Amazon for 26th Oct, 2nd Nov & 16th Nov so can probably kiss goodbye to getting these now - I might have to do the one thing I didn't wanna do and pay over the odds at HMV.

I have Prime and am wondering how it'll affect me, especially regarding the payments I've made. If Amazon can't do next day delivery for a month I should get a partial refund of the cost of my Prime subscription which Amazon should then reclaim from Royal Mail.

On the pre-order front, I’d hate to be missing out on Moon, Rome and the MOC Soul Power and For All Mankind releases. Snow White too...

Windows 7 will hopefully beat the strike.

I've been thinking about the current situation and wondering if my blu-ray's are late or lost!

I've been told I have 1 month free Amazon Prime if I want it so I might just go ahead and take it 1 month before christmas, that should help alot.

I was planning on getting a couple of Blu's from Amazon next week but may have to get them from the US instead (fortunately they are all region free) but will have to make two separate orders, thus pay higher postage to avoid paying tax on one large expensive package.

Anyway, Royal Mail have had their contract with Amazon UK torn up, right? Today I asked elsewhere and was told that RM still handles small packages for Amazon.

Could anybody clarify please?

I think they do still handle small packages, there’s not much choice for that. The contract they lost recently (£25m – ouch) was for parcels over 500 grams.

On yesterday's TV news, it was announced that Amazon along with some other major on-line retailers have finalised arrangements with other delivery companies, so hopefully there won't be undue delays in their shipments.

I suppose their shipping charges might increase though if these arrangements become permanent.
