Default Plasma break-in?

Hey everyone! I got my Samsung PN50B650 today and was wondering what setting recommendations there are for break-in period? I haven't had time to use it much today due to work, but want to give it a proper break-in.

Just want some good sample settings from people who know what they're talking about.

Thanks!

for the break in period, you want to use the standard setting, or a warm setting, then you can do whatever when you feel its done with the break in..

Personally, I don't think you need to treat a new plasma TV any differently than you treat an old plasma TV. That is, calibrate it so you don't have your contrast and brightness up too high, avoid static screens and watch full-screen programming whenever possible. Many advocate a special ritual, but I haven't seen compelling evidence that suggests such rituals are necessary or beneficial.

Agree, and I'll even take it further and say you don't have to worry about full-screen programming as long as you rotate in 4:3, full screen, and letterboxed presentations. I watch whatever I want on mine and have had no issues. I also have the contrast and brightness much lower than those settings (though it is a different set) through calibration with the Spears & Munsil disc.

I too watch whatever I like, but I rarely venture outside of the HD channels. I frequently watch old movies and other programming (i.e. Top Gear) in 4:3 and have had no issues with IR or BI.

Weird, I have the G10, the same game, and went on a few marathon sessions of 4 hours or more and don't have this issue. I would suggest running the whitewash bar and consider forcing the pixel orbiter to run more often. It should clear up.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Right now I have my Cell Light, Contrast, Brightness at about half (so 5, 50, 50, respectively). I haven't calibrated it yet, but I know with my old plasma the same settings were 7, 71, 54, respectively. Are those settings too high for break-in period?

I actually christened it last night with a watching of "Juno" on BD. I used some sample settings found on another site. Cell Light was at 7, Contrast in the 90s, Brightness in the 50s. Of course the movie is in 1.85:1, so it helped that it filled up the whole screen. There was no image retention after the viewing.

Also, to aramis: Do you think it would be just fine to watch a letterboxed movie on the set during the break-in? I had planned on watching a "Harry Potter" film, but it's 160-ish minutes. If it could cause problems, I'll avoid it.

Thanks again!

I've been watching letterboxed movies since I got it without any issues. Just as long as you're mindful and don't leave it on pause for hours I can't see you having any isses. I just posted up CNET and TweakTV's settings for the G10 in the plasma settings forum. My settings are actually all below 50 for contrast and brightness after calibration to avoid clipping whites and blacks. The default THX actually clips white quite a bit.

Do you have a V10 or G10/G15? If it's the V10 (or UK equivalent) when you're watching a source capable of 24hz playback you can go into the menu and turn on 96hz. It won't play that way by default. The G10's have 48hz but the flicker is pretty bad.
