Angry Pip problem on The Thing Blu-ray

Okay,if you could bare with me,i'm a complete technophobe who has nervously upgraded to Blu Ray after 10 happy years of simple DVD ownership.Seeing as i'm a sucker for extras i simply had to upgrade as DVD is now getting bugger all in the bonus features department.
Speaking of extras,i'm having a problem with the PIP option my first ever Blu Ray - John Carpenter's masterpiece - 'THE THING'.I have a Panasonic SCBT205 Blu Ray home theater setup and as i use the PIP feature,i get the picture in the box with no problem but i get no sound.I'm assuming the picture and sound in the box would be automatic or is there something i need to do in the setup? All of the connections are correct and i've tried to use an 'enable secondary audio' option but i can't access it.
Could somebody please,PLEASE help as this problem has made me even more afraid of the Blu Ray upgrade."SOB!"

there is a "thing" about pip playback with audio. cant remember exactly (do some searching) but its the audio settings. if you have bitstreaming enabled, it may not play back the audio in pip. something like that. i dont use it so i dont remember exactly. im pretty sure the manual will mention this in the audio set up

Hello again, thanks for your responses. Now that the kids are in bed,i've just had another look at my setup and found that i haven't connected an optical digital audio cable. Is this what i'm doing wrong? Please say that it is,a simple cable connection sounds like bliss.Again, forgive me if this is an obvious mistake and i sound like a right pleb but i'm new to this game and still don't know the rules ( not sure if i ever will ).
