Default PS Eye

Hi,

I thought I read in a thread here about the PSEye being on clearance at Kmart for $10. I've searched many times for the thread with no luck.

Anyhow,... My Kmart had it for $15 but seemed pretty cheap so I bought one.

I have concerns though...

1) This gizmo may be practically useless
2) My particular setup may make the thing impossible to use.

With my HT I have the PS3 outside the theater and I use a projector and tend to have the lights off (no windows either so it's very dark.)

The wireless nature of most PS3 devices makes having it in the other room no problem. But the PSEye has a wire and it's USB as well. Seems I can't buy a 25 foot USB cable without having some active signal amplifier thingie.

Now,... If I get a fairly long USB cable and just keep the door open and the lights on .... Will the projectors light output mess up the PQ from the PSeye anyway?...

That Eye Pet program looks neat but I wonder if it or anything else that uses the PSEye will work with my setup.

I can't resist such a cool new PS3 accessory for $14.99 but ... I may have just bought something practically worthless.

You can get 2 15 footers from monoprice for just over $3. Next time you need any kind of wires just add it to the order. Worth a try for the low cost.

Hey,

Thanks... All my cables are from Monoprice so that's a great idea.

I just read there are some drivers for Mac so it's possible I could find some neat uses for it outside of just using it for PS3.

I'm interested (of course) in how it's going to work with GT5 but if it will work with my setup is another matter.

I guess the mic is supposed to be good so maybe I'll use that in PSHome or when gaming online.

I guess I'm going to keep it.... would cost me as much to return it as it did to buy it in the first place most likely.

Hey,

I've read up more about the PSEye and found many people use it more for the mic. That's cool,... I didn't give much thought to that but I don't like the BlueTooth earphone thingies so it may be most useful as a mic at least for now.

Only problem is that everyone will hear your speakers.

Hey,

Yeah,... I guess there's reasons for the headset thing after all.

This may be useful for anyone using the PlayStation Eye as an online mic. Just went in with 3.00 AFAICT.

Set Echo Canceller
Automatically calibrates audio output to reduce audio feedback. Select this option if you hear such sounds while using a microphone.

Before starting, place the microphone near the speakers and turn up the speaker volume until the microphone picks up the sound from the speakers.

If the microphone fails to pick up the sound from your speakers, an error message displays.

Restore Echo Canceller
Clears the current echo canceller setting.

That's a fantastic deal. Do you know whether that's Kmart's usual PS Eye price or a 1-week sale?

I don't even know where a Kmart is in San Diego. I guess now's the time to find out! At that price, I can get a couple to video chat with my sister and her kids!

EDIT: n/m, I must've missed the word "clearance" in my first read-through.
