Default lethal weapon 1 & 2 PQ and AQ

Hows the PQ and AQ on Lethal Weapon 1 & 2? Is it as bad as what the reviews on this site says. I have never seen this movie, but if the PQ and AQ sucks I won't get it.

Not sure, but I would wait until they release the extended versions of all four films on blu-ray. They released them on DVD about 10 years ago and they're fantastic!

I believe both these movies were released early in the life of Blu-ray so I would expect re-releases at some point and time.

The transfer of the first is dated but doesn't look too bad however the second film has awful stair stepping and looks atrocious. I'd wait until they re-release them in new transfers

I would wait for the Directors Cuts unless you don't have the DVD's.

Great movies. Although the current Blu-ray versions are pretty bad.

maybe. When dvd first came out the LETHAL WEAPON films were released early in the game and then immediately after directors cut versions came out--all were early releases and not very impressive transfers.

Now we have the same thing with the blus-- not very impressive either but I'd be surprised if new versions came out anytime soon--

The director's cut DVD's actually have 1.5 mbps DTS audio vs the 640kbps DD that's on the Blu-rays.

Plus, I believe at least the first one is a 1080i upconvert. I'm trying to find the article about it.

Quote:
Also problematic, like the HD DVD before it, Warner authored this Blu-ray disc from an older HD master originally transferred in 1080i format and only recently deinterlaced to 1080p in the studio. Unfortunately, at the time the master was struck, heavy vertical domain filtering was applied to reduce the appearance of aliasing and interlace artifacts on 1080i TVs. The process has the side effects of losing vertical resolution detail and introducing jagged artifacts and shimmer in diagonal lines when reassembled to 1080p or other progressive resolutions. It's still better than standard DVD, but not nearly as good as the best that High Definition can deliver.
That's from DVD Talk. There was another site that went into it a little more, but I can't for the life of me find it.

Part one actually looks excellent; exactly what this movie has always looked like, but with much more detail. This is not a spectacular looking movie but it looks about as good as you can ask on blu.

Two is a whole different story. The transfer had been vertically reduced to 1440 and then improperly expanded back out to 1920, leaving behind obvious stair-stepping artifacts. Whatever merits the transfer may have, this defect makes it unwatchable, IMO. In fact, I find the Director's cut DVD upscaled to HD to be preferable.

Many people, including myself, are resisting purchase of LW until the new transfer. Hope to get an excellent transfer to cherish these classics.

Hell yeah, that would be the best box set ever.

A lil off topic, are there Directors Cuts for all 4 on DVD? I just looked at my DVD's and only 2 and 3 say Directors Cut (the chrome colored ones). The first one is the silver one, the fourth is the red one

There was never a directors cut released for the 4th one. Only the first thru thirds to my knowledge.

The first one's alright. The second one has some serious issues with the aforementioned "stair stepping". Just look at the closing credits to see how bad it is.

I just hope if/when WB reissues these titles, they still offer the theatrical cuts. I prefer those to the DCs. And BTW, where is Legal Wreckin 3 on Blu-ray? It's a cheesy flick, but I'd still like to have it.
