Default [Finally] getting some new speakers!

After having these [cheap] things for over a year, I went to the premiere audio and video distributor in my area in search of upgrades and saw this and these. (I'm just upgrading the L,R and center channels.)

My current speakers are chap and I believe that they really lack clarity and definition. They just sound flat, basically. Will the Paradigms give me a [hopefully] discernible difference?

Basically, are they going to be a vast improvement?

I have a receiver that decodes all of the HD codecs, but I can't tell the difference between lossless and lossy AT ALL with my current speakers.

What is your budget for the new speakers, and what specific model of receiver do you have? Sometimes the difference between lossy and lossless isn't as easy to tell as you might think, and your speakers certainly aren't helping in that regard. The Paradigms you're looking at are from Paradigm's Cinema line. I'm sure they would be an improvement over what you have now, but I recommend you step up to the Monitor series if you can swing it.

Well, preferably < $500. If I get the two 110's and the center, it'll be ~$420+tax.

I have the Pioneeer VSX-819HK for a receiver and I think it does an ok job.

Nothing at all against Paradigm, but in your price range I also suggest you take a look at Energy speakers just as another option.

Whatever you do, upgrade the receiver as well. I upgraded to the Energy speakers, but my receiver has an ungodly high crossover. While they still sound worlds better than what I had, they are still being held back because of the receiver.

Try these and this, I know Energy was recommended to you and I think you would really like these. If you get a chance to hear some I think you would find them excellent. You can get them within your budget $260 fronts and $69 center, plus shipping.

I feel your pain. It's hard to just jump in there and put down 500 bucks on speakers. I can say from my experience it is. Now are you sticking with more compact type speakers due to size or for looks. If you have the room I'd say go with a bookshelf type speaker they're not the smallest but easiest to move around. Anyway listen to as many speakers that you can it's the best way to make your final choice and I'm sure those Paradigms will be a huge improvement over your current set up.
