hi i have a home cinema setup using tannoy sfx 5.1 speakers, basically all speakers the same apart from the centre.
my question is, do i use the same type of speaker cable for the rears as the fronts or do i use a better grade to the fronts and centre thanks for any advice |

If you use AWG12 or AWG14 you should be fine wiring all the speakers with the same size wire ! |

i took a look online at the speakers you referenced. i would be careful about using the #12 as i think it will be too large. #14 or #16 looks like it would be fine for the small size (they look palm sized based on the photo) of these speakers. also, you should check out what the system manual says for wire size. if your not going too far with the surrounds then the wire sizes i mentioned will be more than enough. also since these are speakers from across the atlantic (or they are mostly sold on the UK) check the wire sizes based on UK sizes.

on the SFX you will need something like these cable ends to make much more than 16 gauge fit... we have 16 gauge with soldered tips at my work and it is a snug fit on the Tannoys

thanks for all the advice,
do i just order 14 gauge speaker wire or order something like CAMBRIDGE AUDIO SYMPHONY 200 and how do you find out what gauge it is off the name am i correct in saying that the lower the number the thicker the cable one thing that has always made me wonder is... why do they promote gold ends on banana plugs etc when you only ever get nickel plated connections in most amps and speakers many thanks mike Last edited by mike4scuba; 09-22-2009 at 10:07 PM. |

yes, the lower the number the thicker the conductor. don't really know what to tell you about the make-up of the connector bodies. |
