Default Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta/demo discussion/feedback thread!

Am I the only person who doesn’t get the logic of Uncharted 2 multiplayer??

How the hell are you rewarded for being a good player by giving you access to boosters
That allow you to kill beginner players at ease??

I've lost count of the numbers of times I've crept up on a guy, showered him with bullets,
Only for him to turn around and kill me with two shots and that bloody "Running theIrons" booster??

Also, in a randon death match, sometimes it puts up a bunch of amatures against a
Bunch of people in their twenties? Aboslutely pointless.

When the real version launches, are we going to have the same set up?
Cos if so, it's bloody ridicolius!

Rant over! :-)

I can see where alanlad is coming from.

If he jumps in to a deathmatch, only to find the other team full of players with high levels - 20+, 30+, 40+ whatever, then immediately he is going to think that he wont have a chance as all of those players will have already obtained various boosters giving them the edge. Finishing bottom of the table each time isnt fun! It can get quite disheartening (speaking from experience). But on the flip side, you are awarded for the way you play, and how well you play, and that is how this game is. It tough, challenging, but rewarding each and every time you go up a level. I think what alanlad would like to see is if when you are playing a deathmatch, you should be matched up against players at a similar level to you. That way at least there is some sort or level playing field. I am not too familiar with online shooters, so maybe most games are similar to Uncharted, but FIFA, for example, puts you in to lobbies with those who are at a similar level to you, and so making things a bit fairer and as a result, more enjoyable for some.

***Edit, this should probably get merged in to the Uncharted 2 thread..

I too feel the same way as ALANLAD... Which is the reason why I really stop playing shooters online, because I feel that everyone is always so much more advance, it basically ruins the experience for me...It really sucks to be the only one getting 1 or 2 kills while everyone else gets a lot more. I should also say that I am not a pro to begin with, and the lack of time for me to play doesnt help either.

I don't know I was a level 2 owning level 16 and 17 players ,I have always said rank does not mean nothing just how long you have played.Get in your groove know were things are and where your opponent is coming from.

I agree. I started playing a few days late so I was at level 1 vs 15+ lvl guys. I had no problem mowing them down though. The down the irons for the long gun, since I earned it, is an improvement, but even when I didn't have it, you just don't go firing full auto cause then you aren't going to kill anybody. Shoot the AK in bursts and you'll still kill people easily.

The OP is whining over trivial matters.

When you look into the boosters further, they are only small improvements to the players abilities. Also, the nice thing is that only 2 can be equipped at any given time. So, it's not like any single player can become invincible because of the boosters.

The most important general boosters to help your game are available by the time you reach level 14. And, reaching level 14 can be done relatively easy in less than a week. I consider myself a weaker multiplayer shooter gamer and I was able to reach lvl 14 within 3 days of playing for 3 hours a night. Others were able to do it in a matter of a single day of 3 hours play.

Also, remember that the competitive matches are not the only way to improve your character and acquire access to the boosters. The Co-Op Objective game and Co-Op Arena are also very useful at first.

^I've seen quite a few people already in the 40s, and I had a guy on my team last night that is already a 50! I've been playing it quite a bit since Tues night and I'm only closing in on 32

This, pretty much. In the finished game you earn cash in the single player campaign too. Seeing as total cash earned is the replacement for EXP in levelling up, I'm sure you level up playing anything (except Machinima/Replay mode) in Uncharted 2.

Experience, knowledge of the maps, weapons and character abilities are far more important for multiplayer. And good team tactics.

There are a couple novel issues with the multiplayer, I'll admit:

- No headshots. Probably necessary though given how the cover system works and also the fact that there is no 'sprint' feature.

- Counter-intuitive gun types. My only real complaint from Uncharted 1: The AK-47 is more like a Tec-9 (an underpowered spray gun with zero accuracy), while you can snipe at folks from a mile away with the Beretta.

So yes, you need to use controlled bursts of fire--particularly with the AK. The M4 lets you get away with a more reckless approach.

The basic pistols being perfectly accurate is what makes them worth coming back to. That's great in Uncharted.

Headshots do far more damage. 1 hit with more deliberate powerful weapons, not others because it's too easy to spray and hit (realistic but not fun).

The only thing that I found really stupid is the hitting situation were you hit someone and they die but yet they hit you and die

Oh sure, and these things do balance the gameplay. I'm not saying it's bad necessarily--just counter-intuitive. I am re-playing Uncharted 1 (need to re-create that finish save before U2 drops), and it's just a little weird opting for the 9mm-popper for the long-range enemies while using an assault rifle for the more up-close guys. It's an 'arcadey' treatment which requires a mental adjustment, particularly when one has been conditioned by the CoDs and Rainbow Sixes of the world.

So don't rely on the luck you may have been the first to swing. Roll out and continue the fight with skill.

People are stupid if they repeat the same mistakes and don't learn from them.

A rudimentary counter system would be nice...sort of like what the [triangle] button does in Arkham Asylum--where if you see an enemy incoming to hit you and you time it right you can get the hit instead. I think it would add a little strategy to the melee and also encourage more stealth in melee attacks. It would need to be kept simple, though...lest two dudes devolve a conflict into an ongoing jiujitsu match in the middle of a firefight.

This game is really more about teamwork and communication that 1 on 1 battles.

90% of the time in deathmatch, the team that works together better wins.
