Default The Jay Leno Show

Anyone else looking forward to the new Jay Leno Show next month? I think he's great. Have seen him live a few times here in Vegas. Can't wait to see what goofy stuff he comes up with.

Not looking forward to it at all and hope it fails. If his show succeeds other networks could follow suit and put a talk show on in prime time because it is cheap and we'll have even fewer quality shows. I was never a fan of him on The Tonight Show and I would guess this is just going to be a carbon copy of that, as it's already been confirmed that many of the bits like Jaywalking will return as well as Kevin Eubanks leading the band.

Could not said it better. The last 10 years have been the worst in TV history for me with all this reality crap and doctors & CSI shows. If this show work's well, you can be sure CBS, FOX & ABC and a bunch others will follow.

Well good for those who love that, I will pull out my TV series DVD and recall a time when we had good shows on TV.

I'm looking forward to it. But like with all late night shows, I'll usually only watch if there's a guest I'm interested in seeing. The ratings are showing that Conan can't fill Jay's shoes, so I can just imagine the ratings Jay will get being on 1.5 hours earlier. They will probably be better than whatever is usually on NBC in the 10pm-11pm time slot, and the show is probably cheaper to produce than a scripted show, so why wouldn't NBC want to do this?

As for reality and nonscripted shows taking over, apparently that's what the majority of the public wants. Most of the scripted shows on TV these days just aren't any good IMO, which is why reality/talk/game shows have been able to take over.

I just see this as a big risk for NBC. What if something were to happen to Leno? They are putting 33% of their prime time lineup into the hands of one person. If something were to happen to him they would be screwed.

I understand why NBC gave Leno this show. When he signed his contract extension in 2004 he told NBC he did not plan on staying with the show after the contract so they extended Conan's contract with a guarantee that he would get The Tonight Show in 2009 and if he didn't get the show it was rumored he would get a buyout in the $35 million range and would become a free agent. Since NBC saw Conan as the future of late night they felt they had to keep him. When Leno decided he wanted to keep doing television NBC had to think up a solution so he didn't go to a rival network. He could have gone to Fox or ABC and immediately there would be even worse ratings for the Tonight Show. For a struggling network giving Leno 5 nights a week is a win-win proposition. It is much cheaper than having 5 shows in production and will likely result in better ratings.

What will be interesting once Jay's show starts is the booking wars between him and Conan. Since they're both in LA, they'll basically have the same pool of people to interview. So let's say X actor wants to plug their movie, where do they end up going to?

In most cases, it will be Jay. He's on 1.5 hours earlier, and will most likely draw bigger ratings.

ive always been a big fan of leno, never understood his haters. why i enjoy watching him is not only about his comedy, but he is a hardworking, respectful, caring, friendly, laid back guy. he has that type of personality that i would enjoy having as a personal friend. so it becomes a nice way to wind down the day.

i will be glad hes back, he left too early. conan worked well in the late night slot, does not really fit the tonight show audience. so now, a lot of people, like me just stopped watching, some are watching, waiting for jay, and once jay comes back will stop watching conan.

ive been to a couple of the tonight shows with jay, since its not too far away. might try to go to the new one .

I like Leno a lot but, I do hope he fails! If I have the choice a good tv show and a talk show I'm defiantly picking the tv show! As far as his guests go you wont see any tv actors from CBS, ABC and possibly FOX from what I've read, cause of the ratings war.

I dont have anything against Leno, I like some of his stuff and will watch once or twice a week maybe but I didnt like the 5 days a week @ 10pm slot move, but I guess there isnt many places where they can fit him unless they cut it down to 1 or 2 shows a week, which I would prefer since I would take some quality programming over a talk show any day.

My thoughts exactly, which will screw Conan because if that constantly happens he'll have no one to interview.

One thing I do like in the new Jay Leno show is that he's going to do something similar to Top Gear's "Star in a reasonably-priced car" challenge

I have never laughed at Jay Leno. The best thing going for him was his writing team, but he still managed to step all over the jokes. I just assumed he was on for so long for his non-threatening and status quo appeal to the blue hair crowd. He seems like a nice guy and I'd like to drive around with him, but he doesn't have enough charisma or wit for me.

That's one reason why I'm looking forward to JLS as well. It is pretty much his show now, whatever format he wants instead of the long standing typical talk show format of The Tonight Show. There will be a lot of cross-over but I'm hoping he brings in more of the stuff he does on Jay Leno's Garage. The SIARPC challenge is a big step towards that.

I know they tape Conan at 5pm and wonder when the Leno show will tape. I imagine that a Prime Time slot will get "Prime Time" guests. Most guests are promoting something so of course they want a wider audience to show it to. So all in all I think Conan will be Losing the Tom Hanks and such.

Well since Top Gear America was a bust before even getting out of the gate, we at least can get a few features thanks to Leno. Who knows, maybe this is the best way of easing a Top Gear style show into American homes. We'll still always have Jezza, Hampster and Cpt. Slow doing their show across the pond.

Most likely stars will appear on both shows. I could see Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel possibly losing some guests since they get worse ratings than Leno will and Conan already gets.

Leno will get beat at 10:00 by both CBS & ABC but they know that already.

NBC said they want to avg about a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo....if they get that they will be happy because as mentioned this show is cheap to produce.

However Leno could win when other shows are repeats because leno will do 46 weeks of new shows.

In most cases, Jay will get the top tier guests, Conan will get sloppy seconds, and Fallon will get whatever he can scrape of the mattress. (Porky's reference).
