Glee: The Complete Second Season Blu-ray Review

Pre-Order is up, so ready for this. Day 1 for me. I hope it comes with a slip, since the first season did. The picture doesn't show a slip, but i guess we shall see

I almost died of a heart attack seeing this. I still don't own the first season, but this season is worth a "Day 1" imo, even if it is like $45. If it's still $63, tho, I can wait. Anyone else think the cover looks crappy. The colors sort of clash with each other: orange, white and blue.

Unfortunately, I won't be getting this season. I still enjoy the show sometimes, but compared to the first 13 episodes of Season 1 (which were perfect and brilliant), or even the back 9 of Season 1, the show pales in comparison now.

Hopefully Season 3 improves.

It will drop over time. Just like season 1. Calm down.

The same 2-3 people still write every every episode. Season 2 dipped a bit in the last half but it's still an incredibly well done hour of TV. The stories are generic a lot of the time but the show goes a long way to establish an air of acceptance/tolerance and open-mindedness to kids and teens -- that alone is worth it existing. That it offers a fun and zany cast of characters and some great musical sequences is just icing on the cake. Won't be buying it on release day but when it drops a bit I'll pick it up.

There had BETTER be a slip to match Season 1.

I don't get why people complain about the price being so high. Obviously it's going to drop, and it doesn't even come out for another two months

I am definitely getting a copy on release date. Love the show. Hopefully it will have a slipcover just like the first season.

I absoluely LOVED season one. Brilliant, edgy and entertaining. However, season 2 has sunk into the toilet for me.

This show started off with wonderful writting and creative characters, but during season 2, everything got lost. Everyone fell into some outlandish stereotype with no consistancy.

One season has Puck telling his pregant girlfriend he's not into fat chicks, and next season, he's all hot for the largest girl in school.

Finn leaves Rachel for not being faithful in their relationship, and he starts dating his old girlfriend who's dating ANOTHER boy, and she cheated on him once before and got pregnant with his best friends baby.

Sue the coach tells one kid that she will not tolerate bullying in the school and in almost every OTHER episode she's the one pushing people down stairs and slamming kids into lockers.

There's NO consistance in this anymore and the show has gone downhill.

This is just my personal opinion and I respect those who still love the show. just please dont flame me for finding so many flaws in it now.

1. Finn thought a piece of cheese was "jesus" telling him to do things. He didn't break up with Rachel for not being "faithful" he broke up with her because she "broke his heart." It's almost understandable he'd persist in a similarly self-destructive way and latch onto a girl who is "taken." He's thinking selfishly at that point, not rationally.

Regarding Sue and the bullying -- she's the most up/down element of the show because she's essentially the comic relief. One of the first rules of comedy is that you can't take it too seriously.

Not to imply GLEE represents 'reality' in any sense but part of flawed characters is that they often do illogical things. Puck's comments about "fat" chicks was made a year prior. We're meant to see that he is growing as a person -- not basing his entire perception of people on outer appearance, etc. If he dumped her and said "I hate fatties" then it would be inconsistent. At this point it's just character growth. Sometimes people do/say things wildly different than things they believed strongly just years before.

Remember that ultimately the show is a comedy and absurdity is one of the biggest elements of that. Don't take the show too seriously, it's obvious the creators don't -- at least not in that regard. It's a series that celebrates life, love, music, equality, acceptance, humor -- it's not 100% perfect but ultimately the show's heart is in the right place and while I agree Season 2 has dipped a bit I don't think it's NEARLY as big a dip in quality as some think.

Personally my least favorite storyline has been Rachel/Finn's romance because (and I fully agree with you here) it's rather inconsistent. It's up/down -- on/off depending on what the plot that week requires or what song they want Lea Michele to sing. Their story is the one that needs the most work and hopefully it will get some better attention next fall.

We discussed this topic in psychology class, since we were talking about relationships. It's has got to do with Puck's thought processes. He's the type of guy that can get any girl that he wants, and doesn't have to try. To prove his point he tries to ask out
[Show spoiler]Ashley
, but she flat out rejects him. This sends his ego into overdrive and his only goal in life is to sleep with her. I can't remember what the technical term is (I dropped the class)

True love? Or stupidity? One of the two :P

How is this different from Season 1? She acted the exact same way in Season 1.

It was significantly more expensive than it should have been at release. I believe it was around $41.99 at the cheapest for the standard version when it came out and Target had an exclusive bonus disc for a few bucks more. I foolishly bought it too early since I figured the price wouldn't drop much due to the volume of licensed music that was used in it. They had a $10 mail in rebate for people who bought the first half of the season on DVD and I didn't want to miss that when it expired at the end of the year, but then I totally forgot to do it anyway.

For season 2 my buy price is $19.99 or less as the second season was much less fun and often too preachy (bullying episodes) or disgusting (any time Lauren Zizes was on screen).

Really? Lauren is one of the funniest characters on the show. Thankfully Glee doesn't fall into the trap of only hiring "conventionally attractive" actors to play every single role.

Preachy or not it was absolutely necessary considering the amount of gay teens who kill themselves each year due to harassment (or the ones who manage to survive those years with lingering mental scars that often harm their development and self-esteem for decades after). Gay teens are three times more likely to attempt suicide than straight kids. They chose to focus on an issue that is often swept under the rug and ignored by the mainstream. Cheers for that. The show may be preachy but being that it is designed to be seen by kids who have the attention span of fruit flies I'm not intensely bothered by the sometimes flat or simplistic storytelling techniques. The show is about spreading awareness of various social issues affecting teenagers today. In an age where educators post on their facebook walls celebrating the suicide of gay teens I applaud Glee for bringing such a story to the forefront of the TV audience. Has a storyline involving gay teens been done on TV before? Sure. Has it been done on a series that reaches such a large audience on broadcast TV? Nope. Kudos to Glee for that.

The preachy factor didn't turn me off. It was the lazy way in which the character arcs were handled.
