Default Oppo 83 sacd

I'm thinking about buying an OPPO 83 and I was wondering if anyone have has listened to SA-CDs on this player and if they could give any feedback on the quality of this player.

I have the Oppo DV-980H player and am very pleased with its SACD performance. It's my understanding that the BDP-83 outperforms it by a significant margin.

I've heard people say that the BDP-83 is too expensive, but for what you get I think it's a great value for a multi-purpose unit.

I'm using my Oppo 83 SA-cd capabilities via the HDMI connection since my Denon receiver supports native DSD signalling. I think it sounds awesome. If I was considering using it via analog connections, I would really consider the SE or NuForce upgrades to the Oppo 83.

different sound quality on A/V receiver, integrated amplifer and Pro-Pre.
I tried hook analog stereo to my integrated amplifer. I was surpised, I listened sound is diffuser and enough louder.

Pro-Pre is best sound quality than A/V receiver. Don't need SE or NuForce upgrades to the Oppo.

If you want an Oppo without the price the Cambridge Audio BD650 is a re badged OEM Oppo. You may be able to find it for less. On the flip side of that the Lexicon BD-30 is a more expensive re badged version of the Oppo. I read a thread the other day saying the Theta BDP is also an Oppo with an upgraded power supply for 5000.00 !!

Just some food for thought.

That's nothing. The Ayre DX-5 is also a rebadged Oppo and may cost as much as $10,000.

Google, there's just too many threads and websites to link. LOTS of unhappy people out there. Most of the proof is there as well, clear photos of internal components side by side, in most cases they didn't even bother changing any of the names on the internal components.

It's a fact. Many high end manufacturers simply license the chipset or analog board from mass marketed brands and then modify the design and build a beefier chassis around it. The Marantzes are all rebadged Denons (but that's a given since they have the same parent company). Most of the initial high end SACD players were based on the SCD-1 transport. Now many companies (e.g., Theta, Ayre) are licensing the Oppo as a base platform or simply admitting there is no point in getting in the blu-ray game, e.g., Classe.

I realize that, but how then can they charge 10-15-20 times the price? Something doesn't make sense.

It's the sad face of capitalism John. Find some fool willing to pay the price and charge them. Sad really.

Um, because they can. People willingly pay for it.

John I hope you, and other Canadians, had a great Boxing Day yesterday, I think that is right. I do have a general question to the forum masses: is a multipurpose unit the best way to go for playing music? Most people following the HQ music thread use separates for their Pre/Pro and amp, but I am curious about whether getting a single multipurpose unit is a good choice for listening to music? I am thinking that some players might have a better chipset for handling a CD vs SACD vs DVD-A vs Blu-ray. With Blu-ray players commonly available for under $130 getting the Blu-ray with the standard SACD and DVD-A capability isn't a cost saving concept. Is the biggest advantage just having fewer components and cables to deal with?

just wanted to chime in and say that players for under 130 should be overlooked and not even considered. besides pq and aq that have been praised over other players in countless reviews and comparisons, especially those at 130 and below, most players seem to have issues. i had one of the latest players and had some issues with it, not much, but enough for me to jump ship. not to mention it was painfully slow. when a disc takes so long to load, you start to wonder if it will ever load or get an error message.
