Default Atlanta flooding

Anyone else live in Atlanta that is dealing with all of the rain? For the first time in a week the sun is shining . It has been crazy here, last Wednesday when I was driving home from Church I didn't see that the road was under water until I went into it around 40 mph, my car came to a stop real quick, haha. The water was over my bumper but my car kept on going through thankfully. It was kind of scary because I couldn't see where the road dropped off so I had to guestimate where the middle of the road was and just drove through that until I reached a higher point of ground only to have another part of the road under water up ahead. I'm very fortunate I didn't get pulled off the road, I still don't know how I wasn't. I'm just glad I own a Subaru though, some other lady in a chevy tried going through but it flooded her car and they had to come tow her car away

It's NEVER a good idea to drive through high water? Don't you know how many people get killed doing that? Several people just yesterday in your area. You never know when the road might be washed out under the water, etc. Glad you made it ok..... but don't you ever do it again.... you hear me?!?!

Signed,
your mom

haha, if my mom knew that had happened to me she would have had a heart attack. My step-brother's mom was one of the cars that got swept away, fortunately she survived, can't say the same about her car though. The first time I hit the water I didn't mean to but I was already at a point to where there was no turning back, if I had dropped the RPMs on my engine there is a chance water could have choked my exhaust and killed the car leaving me stranded. The second time was in a area that even if I had been swept away I would have gone maybe 5 feet, so no biggy.

Live in Warner Robins, about an hour and a half south of Atlanta. We received a downpour. Lightning literally was nonstop for 3 hours.

that was insane that night! I have never heard a lightning storm like that before, just non stop for hours. It was hitting close to my house as well, really loud and I couldn't go back to sleep, some how the power didn't go off. I had my flashlight next to me ready to go in case it did but not even a flicker of the lights.

I couldn't sleep either 2 nights ago with all that lightning and thunder. I live in Midtown so and live on the 3rd floor of a 5 story condo. There were some floods in buckhead but none in my area. Some crazy things though in other areas. Glad the worst of it is over though, or at least i hope it is.

That's at Six Flags.

I know a lot of schools are closed today in the Atlanta area.

What a mess.

This is going to cost time and money to fix all of this. I wasn't following the news regarding this. How did the flooding start, was it too much rain or a river overflowing because of rain?

ya Six Flags got hit pretty hard

it all started last week when it just started pouring down rain non stop and after being in a drought for awhile the ground wasn't exactly prepared to be saturated so quickly.

It's too much rain in too short a time. 20 inches in some places.

Of course, rivers flooded, too.

There is an underpass here that floods every time it rains like this and it never fails some moron drives into it. I can't figure out how they manage not to see the flashing red light and road blocks but they get around it and into the water.

Interesting viewpoint.

What if you're on an interstate, such as the ones below. What do you suggest then?

Call 911. Have them and DOT come out and redirect traffic.

Oh, because I thought you said people are stupid and they should just turn around.

This flooding wasn't necessarily affecting people in the sunlit day. Some people encountered it at night and might not have known what they were getting into. That's how some of them died.

While I no doubt agree that most people are idiots, I think your derisive posts are a little unwarranted.
