I gave both of these a solid 4 out of 5 stars and which means "very good to excellent" on my rating scale...

Which one I want to watch most? Probably SIDEWAYS as I find parts of the movie to be hysterically funny and I loved Paul Giamatti's performance!

I watched The Descendants last night and enjoyed it. Both are good movies, but Sideways is a more memorable movie for me.

Although The Descendants was good, Sideways wins this one easily. I'm more of a Giamatti fan than Clooney and I've always had a thing for Virginia Madsen.

Love both films but The Descendants actually pips it just. It's a tighter script and it's less pretentious I reckon. Still just as funny (Sideways is certainly more quotable).

My favourite Payne film though might be Election. But every time I watch one of his films I change my mind - I saw Citizen Ruth for the first time recently, what a hugely under-appreciated film!

I wonder if it's the look/setting, subconsciously effecting one when thinking about each?

Not sure I get the first post. I've already watched both. The Descendants has my preference. But if I had to pretend I had seen neither and had to choose one, I'd probably pick Sideways because it was more acclaimed and I vastly prefer Paul Giamatti over George Clooney.

Sideways is a 10. Definitely deserved its Best Picture nomination.

I've only seen The Descendents once but that's because I was hugely disappointed by it. I need to give it a another try based on the love it's getting in this thread.
