Default Issues playing some Paramount releases

I couldn't find this mentioned anywhere else on this site but I have going through my Blu-ray collection and have discovered the following Paramount Blu-rays issued in 2008 now have disc errors and stop playing at certain points of the movie:

Cloverfield
Clear and Present Danger
The Hunt For Red October

I have previously watched these discs without any issues. I searched the Internet and found one person who had the same issue with Cloverfield at pretty much the exact the same spot. This is kind of scary. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Potentially worrying news.

I do sometimes wonder if there's any truth to those conspiracy theories that some studios deliberately manufacture discs in such a way that they will fail after 'x' number of years so that we will have to buy them all again.

That said my 2008 copy of Red October still played perfectly when I watched it again a few weeks ago.
Plus I have 17 years old DVD's that still play perfectly as well.

That's not the disc, that's your PS4 exhibiting good taste.

I had a similar issue this past weekend with ROCK OF AGES, although it's a WB release. Disc is in perfect condition but my player would not load it.

Yep, at the layer change. It happened with my disc when I learned a few years ago that it affected some of the first pressing discs. I bought a new disc for cheap and it works fine.

This kind of thing makes me sad and worried. I haven't even opened half my blus (which is weird, but I tell myself that of course I plan to watch them eventually)... can you imagine if by the time I get around to watching them, they don't work?!?! Uggh. That would be brutal.

I ordered replacement discs. Any idea how many titles were affected by this?

I watched Cloverfield again earlier this year right before 10 Cloverfield Lane came out, and it worked just fine.
