Default Ken Russell's The Devils

Does anyone know of this film will ever see a blu-ray release? What company owns the rights ? Would be a great Arrow or Criterion release imo.

Dammit. I thought this was a post about it coming out, not something that should be in the wishlist

With current WB management, it will never come out.

'The Devils' is apparently available on a streaming-service called 'Shudder' in a 109-Minutes-Unrated-Cut.

Quote:
As the company says in a press release, this is the first time that the 109-minute unrated cut of the film has been available in the U.S. since 1971.

As an owner of the fantastic BFI DVD, it's still the censored (and more arguably most importantly, the Russell-disowned) cut. Exciting sure but it's meh news at best when the BFI DVD is still readily available.

Just saw the news via Indiewire. So this is the cut from the relatively recent BFI DVD? That's progress I guess for the U.S. concerning this film. I still haven't watched The Devils but of course with all the hype and noise being made about it I've wanted to. I don't know if I should just sit down and watch this cut, or continue to be patient for something that may never happen in my lifetime. I just don't want the notorious, censored scenes to stand out on subsequent viewings should the true original cut actually surface.

Obligatory, but if you're seeing this and have no clue about Warner's censorship of this film since the 70s, read up on it and send them polite emails, tweets, etc. asking them to release it and spread the word. Even if you're already aware, send them a message. There's a Facebook called FreeTheDevils for additional info.

Apparently not. The runtime is 109 minutes, and the BFI is 111 minutes (when corrected for PAL speedup). I believe the U.S. R-rated cut is 109 minutes, which makes me wonder if that's not what they're actually showing.

I'd doubt it, but the original US theatrical cut was an 'X'-rated cut which featured more footage than it's R-rated cut (which was officially viewed, rated by the MPAA and cut after it's initial theatrical run).

Love for this to come out, but not holding m breath. Warners seems so dead set against releasing this film and they have so many others they can released.
