Arrow Guillermo del Toro Sets up TROLLHUNTERS at DreamWorks Animation

Quote:
A couple weeks ago at the Toronto International Film Festival, Steve interviewed Guillermo del Toro and learned that the writer-director-producer was developing projects at DreamWorks Animation. Today, THR reports that del Toro will write and direct Trollhunters for the studio. The film is based on a young adult novel that del Toro submitted to publisher Hyperion about two weeks ago. Said del Toro:
Quote:
“I wanted very much to develop a story that could be written for kids but dealt with a genre that was scary,” he said. “It essentially combines fairy tales with modern times and is about how difficult it is to be kid. Normally, kids are idealized in animated films. But the growing pains, married with the notion that there is a world right next to us that is completely plagued by creatures of ancient lore, it’s thematically fitting with the rest of my stuff.”
Hit the jump for more on del Toro’s relationship with DreamWorks Animation.

Del Toro has actually already been hard at work at DreamWorks Animation serving as an executive producer and creative consultant on upcoming films like Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, and Megamind.
Trollhunters is just the latest del Toro project in development. In addition to developing video games and TV shows, and writing novels, del Toro is hard at work on getting his next movie ready: a 3D adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness with James Cameron producing. Del Toro is also producing The Haunted Mansion based off the Disney ride and the drama Midnight Delivery. According to THR, del Toro plans to finish writing Trollhunters (which is a tentative title) before he shoots At the Mountains of Madness in May.

And no, don't blame Dreamworks for this one--
This was supposed to be the SECOND contractual Del Toro picture for his "Double Dare" deal with Disney (after the Haunted Mansion pic), but the arrangement fell through.

As for how it ended up at DW, just ask Chris Sanders how often DW fishes around Disney's dumpsters.

Can't wait for this as I love everything that Del Toro does and for the most part Dreamworks.

I don't think will get it at least 2015 at the earliest. BTW do you know the other DD projects that were supposed to come out? Is Don't Be Afraid of the Dark one of them?
