Default Center Channel Placement

I have a question. Is it better for the SQ of my center channel to be placed on my home theater stand (where it currently is) or should I put a shelf over my TV to place my center channel?

Thanks for you suggestions.

I prefer having it as close to ear level as possible. Which happens to be right under the TV in my set up.

1. your hardwood floors are a concern for reflective points for the center. a rug or mat in front of it may help.
2. considering placement, its ideal to have the drivers close to each other as possible, and towards the ear level when in a seating position.
3. ever consider placing the center in 'front' of the telly? on the same space or will it block the IR receiver? just a thought.
4. what were your other options anyways? were you thinking of mounting it on top of your television? placing it on a stand?

first choice for me is to place it right in front of the telly. second is to get a stand, isolate the center with mopads, and set it in front of your HT stand. (you did want SQ to prevail right?)

just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Due to the size of the room and my TV the only options I have is to place the center channel is either on the stand where it presently sits or put a shelf on the wall above the the TV. I'm not sure if putting it that high up will improve SQ.

when you say 'high up', do you mean
putting the tv on a speaker stand above your tv?
or
putting it on the tv stand, on the same ledge that the tv is on?

if it would be the latter, then id consider trying it out first. you'd be surprised at times. especially when you isolate the center speaker.

its all about experimentation and placement.

I totally agree with you .
I've always had my centers over the TV ( until i got the OMD-C2)and i was very happy with the sound. For me it just sounded fuller.

It is a preference.

Like jomari says ,Experiment

I prefer mine below... but with my new entertainment unit, that wasn't an option. I've found that when limitations force you to place your CC above the screen, angling it downwards towards the listening area sounds better than leaving it straight horizontal.
