Default Denon avr590

I was reading in the o&m that if I hook an amp to power some front speakers I would be able to use two more speakers. Would this give me a 7.1 surround or just a modified 5.1? Also saw this for 249 open box is that a good deal for this? Thanks for the help

I have this receiver and it's been a dream. $249 is a great price. I paid $300 and feel that it's worth much more than that.

I believe you can hook up two more speakers that are powered by another amp for either back surround speakers creating a traditional 7.1 surround enviroment or you can hook them up as front height speakers, creating what's known as Dolby Pro Logic IIz. I haven't another amp to use this kind of feature, but from what I understand, it's a very neat feature that new receivers are beginning to utilize. It only adds even more value to an already exceptionally priced unit.
