Default Blu-ray Advertisements

I take it (without saying) by now that everyone has seen, with recent DVD releases, the standard Blu-Ray advertisements floating around which tells us all about how good Blu-Ray is, the 1080p high quality picture, lossless sound and why we should invest in Blu-Ray etc.

But can anyone please tell me; Why do they feel the need to place these exact same advertisements on Blu-Ray Discs? Surely to god after having spent a small fortune buying the HDTV, the Blu-Ray Player and a nice little collection of Blu-Ray Discs, it would be obvious to the person who has the movie how good it is.

I'm always surprised to see an advertisement for Blu-ray on a Blu-ray disc. There's no need to sell it to me if I already have it. Granted, some of these are to advertise certain movies on Blu-ray; I believe Fox does this. But they do not need to explain what High Definition is.

It is rather pointless.

It's all in the advertising and marketing. Your friends, over for a movie, who don't have a player may see it, and some people who have bought into the technology just get hyped on it. I don't mind the ads so much. I usually just chapter ahead to the next ad or preview which I'm not going to watch, either.

Was playing NHL 10 for the PS3 last night and a new ad for Transformers on Bluray popped up on the boards. It got my attention.

They did exactly the same with DVD at the beginning, and also on video when widescreen became the norm.

It's meant for the people who are just getting into Blu-ray for the 1st time to advertise what the big deal about Blu-ray is. And so almost all movies have it so that no matter what kind of movie you are interested in you'll see it. People do buy Blu-ray players but not everyone knows 1st hand just exactally what the Blu-ray experience includes.

They're for people who are renting or are still unsure of the format after buying a player (notice that most people would buy a HDTV independently of a BD player).

They're also pretty good demo material for showing to friends/family because they often show what DVD resolution looks like on a HDTV before immediately showing what it should look like.

And on top of those things, they feature specific movies from the distributor and a viewer might see something they like and decide to buy one of them.

I was watching an old DVD the other day and it had an ad for the new DVD format. It was about the audio, picture, etc. It was amusing. An outdated version of the Blu-ray commercials. Almost exactly the same ad, though. 10 years ago, DVD was the cat's meow.

Several places like Fry's and even Walmart show Blu-Rays on a demo setup, and these ads are perfect for that environment.

I can think of a few off the top of my head
1) the rental place or electronics store might play a BD
2) you might have friends over who have not yet bought BD
3) if you search the site you will see several threads and people saying they won't upgrade any or most of their DVD collection or still watch DVDs and even some still buy DVDs. Just because they bought a player does not mean everyone has completely understood yet
4) there is nothing to lose

The advertisements for Blu-ray on DVD make even less sense. How can you show the advantages of HD when the commercial isn't even in HD?

Now thats a good point. You can't show a better product on an inferior product. Just doesn't make good business sence.

It makes perfect sense! You're riding a Chevy and being advertised to buy a Cadillac. Even if you're already a customer, there's ALWAYS more money to be made off you. Hell, even if you don't upgrade to BD, the studio's still telling you to buy Spiderman 3/MIB/Transformers...

I don't know if anyone remembers the first commercials for HDTV a few years back showing a TV on the screen showing a HD picture even though everyone still just had digital cable. The women would say something like "This is the picture of the future" I would always laugh at those commercials.

Back on topic...

How about the Blu-Ray commercials showing Blu-Ray movies that have not been released yet. We were watching Horton on BD yesterday and they have one of those BD commecials and in it shows The Incrediables in Blu. When did I miss this?
