Default Kuro screen size adjustment question

I just got my cable box, so I've started watching non-HD programming. Certain channels (e.g., TCM, Spike TV) will display programming in the original aspect ratio, but fitted for 4:3 TV's. Therefore black bars are present on all 4 sides of the picture.

The Kuro's Zoom option stretches the picture vertically, while the Wide1 or Wide2 options stretch the picture horizontally. Either way, the picture is distorted.

How can I 'zoom' in on the picture without distorting aspect ratio and eliminate
- all blacks bars for 1:85 to 1 content
- left and right black bars for 2:35 to 1 content

My old Panny PX60U has an option to do this, but I can't seem to find this option on the Kuro.

You shouldn't be getting a Windowbox for 4:3 programming. Maybe check you settings
As for the "zoom" to get rid to the black bars (without distortion), I don't think that there is a setting for that. I take it, you don't like them?

You will never be able to zoom and not have some distortion.

That being said my understanding is the KURO has an advanced type of Zoom that only stretches a certain percentage of the outside of the picture making the main center focus of the image intact.

I used zoom for 4:3 images when I first got the tv and they looked quite good I thought.

I used Zoom1.

There is not "good" zoom on the Kuro at least not that I can find.

For the Kuro I have to use the cable box to zoom when watching anything letter boxed or if you want to zoom. That is if your cable box has the option.

I do know what you are talking about though...my Sony has the zoom feature that you are talking about and I use it sometimes.

I just purchased this TV and was doing some reading on it. Read this review to see if it helps you understand your problem; http://hometheatermag.com/flat-panel...or/index1.html Start reading under Putting It Together...

It's the same zoom. It's still going to stretch the image but the way it does it is better on the KURO. This is at least what the sales guy was telling me. I don't use it anymore as I prefer everything in OAR but when I did try it, it looked better than my LG zoom.
