Exclamation Are CD layers on Hybrid SACD's better than standard CD's?

I've been asked this question by some members, but I don't have a qualified answer. I suppose on some SACD's they are, and on others not, but that's purely conjecture on my part.

It's entirely dependent on the master used. Could be better, or worse than other masterings (or the same)

It's true for the SACD layer too. Some people may prefer a CD master of a recording to a given SACD mastering.

I should have been clearer I suppose with my question. Let me try again. Given the use of the identical master, would there be a difference?

I believe the CD layer is Redbook - 44.1/16 - the same as a standard CD.

That's correct, there is no difference in the specifications of an SACD's CD layer and a regular CD. If the masterings are identical then playback will also be.

Often a hybrid SACD will contain a PCM downconversion from the DSD mastering for the CD layer. Sometimes the record labels just reuse an old standard CD mastering for the redbook layer. It really varies from disc to disc.

Default How about Durability?

Regarding hybrid SACDs, is the hi-rez layer on the bottom of the disc (opposite the label)?

Wondering if the SACD layer would be the first to get scratched...

Yes, the outermost part is the CD layer.
