Default Analogue Productions - Impulse Reissues (45 RPM)

As you may or may not know, I'm a huge sucker for the jazz 45 rpm reissues. I have a lot of them, and despite my early reservation about their very high price - the sound is incredible.

Analog Productions just started another series, this time it's Impulse records that gets the spotlight. These will be in a thick gatefold cover and will be mastered by Kevin Gray.

These are the first 3 titles.

John Coltrane - Coltrane

Charles Mingus - Mingus, Mingus, Mingus, Mingus, Mingus

Gil Evans - Out of The Cool

The rest of the titles.

A Love Supreme on 45rpm.

I am drooling for these as well. Coltrane (self-titled Impulse) is in my top 10 albums (as is Love Supreme). But I'm still on the fence as to whether I'll splurge on the vinyl or the SACDs that will roll out later. There is no doubt the 45s sound better, but they're twice as expensive and I need to get up four times just to hear the entire album...for critical listening that's not a concern but these are among my favorite/most frequently played albums and I often spin them just while doing chores or other things that I wouldn't want to interrupt to turn over the 45. If the Blue Note SACDs are any indication, those will be plenty sufficient.

The getting up part is the problem. For myself I'd have to roll out of my theater seats to to the changing.

I've gotten to the point where it does not bother me to get up to turn the record frequently. It sounds that good.

Same here. Shaking my head to clear my mesmerised state and getting up to change sides more often is a very small price to pay for such pleasure!

Some days it's the only exercise I get!
