Does anyone know when Star Wars will be released on Blu-ray? I have been patiently waiting and I don't even hear a rumor going around. This is one of the greatest movies made, so I don't understand why it hasn't been release on Blu-ray yet.

Seriously?

It will come out when Lucasfilm (ie. Georgie boy) decides he can make a quick several million. Wait until Lucasfilm is struggling with finances and their next film? Whenever that is?

There's a rumor about it coming out next year along with Back to the Future Trilogy. Albeit, this is a very rickety rumor. It could be debunked at any moment.

It took nearly six years for the original SW trilogy to hit DVD. We are only about 3 years into the Blu product lifecyle.

George did nothing to help the demand for the original by ruining much of it with the prequels. The demand I think is going to be much lower. There was going to be a large 30th anniversary DVD box set, but that was canceled when Lucasfilm saw poor sales with the DVD re-release with original cuts (nevermind the fact that they used 15-year old Laserdisc masters).

The days of gravy training re-releases for a quick buck at Lucasfilm are over.

Thumbs up

I already have a copy because Lucas and me are breauxs. It is all original theatrical versions, and the extra features include a bunch of naked pics of Carrie Fisher from 1976.

I think Lucas also thinks VOD/PPV/streaming is going to be a way to keep a steady income from Star Wars. He may never release a version you can own on high definition. George wants you to reach into your wallet every time you want to experience the holy trilogy.

Yeah I read a little about it. I won't be surprised if they push it back like the others.

It'l probabaly come during the lead up to the debut of the Live action TV show, but thts still likley a year or more away (2011 is what i've heard rumoured)

But serioulsy this thread is reduntant... the space could be better used by threads about Back to the future, Gladiator picture quality or eco cases

This is true. Episodes 1 & 2 were released on DVD in 2002, but the original trilogy (Episodes 4, 5, & 6) was much later (around September 2004 I believe?). As numerous posters have already said, we're going to be waiting for quite some time.

We have to give Lucas enough time for technolgy to allow him to edit the films once more into an ultimate edition

The rumoured changes will include

-Pupet Yoda entirley removed and replaced with a digital one that will constantly jump around the screen

-Jar jar to be added into the mos eisly cantina scene, it will be him has the death mark on 12 systems

-Aditional dialouge added to the "I Am your father" speech to include Vader's comments about how C-3P0 was built by himself and that Chewbacca knows Yoda

- The final scene in the movie will now also have Obi Wan's and Yoda's heads replced with Hayden Christensen's
