Default Favorite CLASSIC/VINTAGE Monster Movies?

All the recent horror polls here have focused on films from the 80's and beyond. All well and good . . . but it's time for those of us who prefer Karloff to Krueger, and Chaney to Chucky!

I'm looking for pre-"Halloween" films from, the silent era through the 70's. The question is, what are your favorites? Why?

The Exorcist, it is just down right creepy & disturbing.

Frankenstein & Bride of Frankenstein, Karloff's performance, Whale"s lighting, Jack Pierce's make up.

Night of the living dead, the 1st of it's kind.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre- Brutal & in your face, considering the time it came out.

Nosferatu- The atmosphere

The Shining, Kubrick & Nicholson

Dracula, Lugosi

(The Horror of ) Dracula, Christopher Lee

Here are some of my faves:
1)Frankenstein(Karloff-who else)
2)Dracula(Lugosi)
3)The Raven(Lugosi and Karloff)
4) All the Roger Corman ones based on Edgar Allen Poe's stories which starred Vincent Price.
All these had that gothic look of castles, and great use of shadows and all had such an eerie feeling to them. And they didn't have to resort to all the gore to scare the pants off of you. In short l happen to think they were just made better. They were true horror films as opposed to the "gore" films of today.

Sr or Jr?

Lon Sr had some very cool films. Phantom of the Opera of course. And a great one called The Unknown -- where Lon is an armless knife-thrower in the circus. Great!

Wow way too many to list but from the B/W era - anything with Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney Jr., or Lorre. From the color era but still pre-Halloween, anything with Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, or Vincent Price
