I wish I can take off on Friday, but since I'm pretty much last in seniority in my Dept... I will probably never experience Black Friday...unless I call in.

Calling in on Black Friday at my job pretty much warrants an instant firing.

But you told me already you're not going to go because of the stupid people. I don't blame you.

In my life, I've either had a job and couldn't get the day off -- or no job, which meant I had the day off, but not the extra money to spend.

I know right! I like to save my "sick days" till the end of the year.

I always work for newspapers and you have to have a lot more seniority than me to get that day off, since a certain amount of people have to work.

It's a given holiday at my work. We don't get Columbus day though. I think Black Friday is more important.

Black Friday is one of my favorite days to work all year. A lot of the office takes the day off and a lot of companies have the day off so it's usually the quietest day all year. I would never go shopping that day anyway. I hate getting up early and don't like crowds so I'd rather stay at home. The only time I was a part of the madness was when I was in college (2002) and worked at Sears and that's an experience I would never want to relive. Did make about $35/hour that day though, which was nice. I'll just be searching the internet for deals.

The Internet has ruined Black Friday at physical retail stores. There are too many sites that explicitly break down each sale and which items to go for. The intense competition for the few units usually available at doorbuster prices make it much more of a hassle now than ten years ago. That does not even begin to include the effects of the professional resellers, mostly from eBay, who swoop in to buy things only for the purpose of making a buck.

Considering last year Amazon price matched all department store door busters, I did like 90% of my shopping from them. I see things playing out similarly this year. I may go to like one or two stores just to get that Black Friday atmosphere, but that's it. lol.
