Default New kitty in da house!

I was coming home today when I noticed a black tabby shivering in a corner of my apartment entrance. It's raining out so I took her in. I checked around the apartments to see if she belonged to anybody and nobody has claimed her. Our downstairs neighbor said they saw her last night as well. Our guess is she was abandoned. We decided to keep her over night and try to see who owns her tomorrow.

The only problem is we already have a cat. Thunderbolt (My kitty's name. ) has been hissing and she starting hissing too. We have them in seperate rooms. Does anybody know if there is a solution to them getting a long. Thunderbolt is a boy and the cat we found is a girl by the way. Any help will be nice because if can't find who she belongs to I'll keep her (if both cats get along). I personally don't trust humane societie. Thanks.

I've had my cat for 15 years or so. Over that time she has had new cats and dogs introduced to her. Like you said they will hiss and growl at each other for awhile. Do like you are doing and keep them apart while no one is home and let them 'feel' each other out while someone is around. In a few weeks they will be best buddies.

My fiance is a vet tech. She say have the kitty sleep on a blanket then take the kitty blanket and put under Thunderbolt's food dish so he gets used to the smell and associates the kitty smell with good things. Also keeping them in separate rooms when you're not around is good. Make sure the kitty gets spayed when its old enough. Talk to your county about spay neuter clinics you may get lucky and get it for free.

Good look with the new cat.

Thanks for the advice. We are keeping them in seperate rooms for now. From what it seems like. The new cat only hisses at Thunderbolt. He hisses to but not as much. I believe she is afraid of him or perhaps she's had a bad past with other cats. I will watch them over the next few weeks and hopefully they will get better with each other. Now I just need to figure out a name for the new kitty....

I'm not naming the cat after something from Erin Hunter's Warriors series. lol. Why lightfoot. It's catchy for some reason though...
btw, it's a black tabby.
