Default Change to Blockbuster's On-Line Program

Did anyone notice the Email from Blockbuster? The reason I went with BB instead of Netflix was so I could exchange in store and get a free game rental each month. Now, they have taken away the game rental and are limiting the number of in-store exchanges you can make. I have put up with their poor blu-ray availability long enough, I am going to be switching back to Netflix.

I just wanted to get that off my chest and see if anyone else was upset by this.

I feel better now

I still only rent maybe one video a month if even that... not worth Netflix for me, a service that requires you pay every month whether or not you use the service.
BB works for me cause it has store fronts. I just rented the DVD of Psycho on a whim and it was great! My wife never saw it before and I didn't want to spoil the ending. I just had to rent it to show her.

I just hope that BB doesn't do anything stupid to try to make up for bad sales. If they go under, that would be a big blow to Blu-ray, and movie renting in general.

While I heard about this happening for a few weeks now, it still hasn't happened to my account, yet. Although, I am with you on being upset about the lack of available movies. But, I won't go into it again here as I've stated my dissatisfaction regarding BBuster enough already in previous posts.

The only thing keeping me from canceling my membership with them is the fact I'm not quite done with renting all the older Blu-rays at the store that I just don't want to buy. I have a few more left to watch, then I will just take over my girlfriends Netflix account. That's definitely a much better bet looking ahead.

I actually joined BB Online when the deal was for two free game/movie rental coupons in the store every month. While I rarely/never rent video games, the coupons that we have been getting still have said "free movie/game rental" on them. I'm actually pretty certain that some people have been grandfathered into the new program and are still able to get the same coupons for free game rentals that they got in the past. This is all about when you joined.

Blockbuster send me an email saying that if I wanted to keep the same plan that I have right now, I would have to pay $24.99 instead of $17.99 a month. I cancelled my membership right after I read that email. I can't believe that they have the nerve to raise the price when their Blu-ray selections are all on a long wait or a very long wait. I was very ticked off while I was reading that email, but feel alot better after I cancelled my membership with them.

Same here. I go in sometimes with my two free game coupons and the guy at the register is amazed. They ask me how I was able to get two. I haven't got any email from BB...I've been a member for a couple of years. As long as I still get my two game rentals each month and my price stays at $19 and some change, I'm not switching.

I'm sorry, but 2 coupons, 3 coupons, however many coupons won't keep me as a member if the selection sucks and they can't deliver on their supposedly available titles.

I'm staying w/ mine, one out a time. It's now limiting me to two exchanges per month, but oh well, now I get to watch more of my own movies.

Its pissed me off big time. I complained to them after receiving that email. Then they sent a canned response that must have picked up on the word "cancel" in my response, even though I said "I may cancel". Then they sent a survey asking me how the customer service person was helpful in their response. I said, what a joke, it was a canned response, who do you think you are fooling. That really pissed me off even further. Bait and switch. I smell a class action coming. Offer a really low rate and benefits to get people to switch from Netflix, then after a year you lower all the benefits and raise the cost, hoping all the lemmings will just stick with you now that you have put the other place out of business. Lawyers out there? Time to get fired up.

I think I'm going to cancel as well. Every movie I want is "Very Long Wait" and I hear the more movies you get per month, the less chance you have at getting any movies with a 'Long Wait'. And I've been noticing this to be true. I haven't gotten one movie from the top 3 of my queue forever.

Netflix here I come.

I think it's kind of the like the grass is always greener on the other side. Both services have its negatives. If you're looking to be pleased 100% of the time, it ain't gonna happen. I have issues at times with BB too but that is just the way it is. I'm sure as time goes on, both of these services will mature and be more reliable.

Yeah, I got the email last week. I bailed on netflix for the BB in-store rental option. I was renting 6 titles almost every week with BB. On top of that my store offers a $3 coupon trade-in for games. I may still keep BB since they still offer the same program minus the game coupon for $24.99. That's a big jump in $, but that's what I was paying to Netflix for their 4 out program anyway. It's still a savings if you consider a new release is $6.99 in-store without the program, and I could never turn over 6 movies per week with Netflix without getting "throttled" (I don't watch all 6 btw - basically there's always something to watch for the family).

Actually I expect both services, as we know them--renting and sending physical media--to die in the next year or so and give way to downloaded movie rentals. It won't stop physical media from being available for purchase, but the cost-benefit ratio or offering downloaded movies as opposed to the overhead and shipping required to do physical discs will be overwhelming, and I am all for it, as long as they pass the savings to me.

You have to remember this was originally a service to get and send back movies in the mail.

Remember???? :-)

I was a member before the return to the store and get a free replacement. So i took advantage of what they offered and i was watching six movies a week. 3 from the mail and 3 when i returned them per week.

I got the email few days ago. I have the 3 at a time and my plan only went up a dollar. My plan is now limited to 5 dvd replacements. If i exchange over 5 in store, I will be charge 2 dollars and some odd cents rental fee for the dvd over #5.
As stated in the email this will start on the next monthly cycle of September.
So they gave me plenty of warning and i am not complaining about all the movies i was able to watch while BB was trying to drum up more biusiness.

As you can imagine, i kinda need a rest from all the movies, so after i watch my next 3 Blu-Ray's, i will cancel at the time i put them in the mail to go back. At some point in the next month or so i will decide what i will do next.

It was great while it lasted! :-)

YEAH!!!
Try downloading a Blu-ray movie (once they become available for download that is) with even the fastest broadband connection of today. You'll be waiting for a couple of days no doubt.
